Fill in the matrix below, in which you will analyze the characterization, dramatic irony, plot, and conflict in Oedipus Rex and A Raisin in the Sun. Then, answer the question below the matrix. Oedipus Rex The characters are described as honest people who make mistakes and know how to get through them. The mistakes the characters made expressed Characterization characterization by each of the other characters’ responses to those mistakes. The dialogue and descriptions form one scene to the next break down the characters also. Many dramatically ironic moments were depicted in this play. When Oedipus was demanding Teiresias tell everyone what he knew about the death of the king as Oedipus was the killer and he did not realize it yet. Also, Oedipus left his home for another town so the prophecy Dramatic Irony of his killing his father and staying with his mother would not come true and that’s exactly what wound up happening. A Raisin in the Sun The characters in this drama are basically the type of people for that period of time. The characters had strong feelings toward each other, which was also defined in the dialogue. By expressing the interests, achievements, and personal goals, the author contributes to the conflicts being presented. The writer included dramatic irony when Walter gave all the money from Lena to his “business partner” to be, but Willy Harris took off with the money. Walter went from winning to losing and his family had advised him that getting into business with Willy was not a good decision. Also the choice of the writer in the last name of the main characters, “Younger” was ironic as the family portrayed a tired and weary family with friction in most interactions. As the drama moved on, the main characters did begin to behave in a “younger” manner.
Oedipus struggled with his friend and colleague Creon as he accused Creon of trying to steal his throne because Teiresias said that Oedipus was the killer. its people. This drama was riddled with conflict from the first scene until the final conversation with Karl Lindner. and its customs. I believe Sophocles most effectively utilized dramatic literary devices and conventions. In the end. Oedipus struggled with the prior king. they got to move into a new house that is described as a new beginning. when he wanted to know the whole story and she did not think it was good for him to know since she realized that he was her son.Plot The plot was given when the drama began to investigate the death of the king. He turned into a different character at this moment. also his father. the queen. He argued with the clairvoyant over advising him and the people who killed the king. The same conflict went through the drama to determine who the killer was. LIT 210 . dialogue. Everyone wanted to be something more. He didn’t limit himself to just one or two but used many. but in my opinion. Conflict Conflict was used throughout the drama when Oedipus wanted to identify the last king’s killer. who did not appreciate her appreciation for Nigeria. and foreshadowing. Walter was constantly arguing and angry with all of the family members except Travis until his mother gave him the money and told him she trusted him. Lorraine Hansberry effectively used literary devices as well. His characters were very well developed. Oedipus argued with Jocastê. Sophocles used them better. Another major conflict was between Beneatha and George. Another major conflict was between the Younger family and Karl Lindner who told the family that they were not wanted in the new house and he and the association would purchase the home from them. The storyline came to life through flashback. As each person progressed. All the events pertain to that matter. when they crossed paths on the highway.
