Social medicine unit survey for LU V Class 2014 Good day, future doctor!

! We thank you for sharing some of your time with us while you fill this questionnaire. This survey is part of a larger effort to evaluate the psychosocial aspects of the UPCM curriculum. Basically, well be looking at what is currently offered to the students in the different year levels, and from there well try to identify how they can be improved. Please bear in mind that all of this is for your benefit as you go through your medical education, as well as for the benefit of those that follow you. For this questionnaire, well first look at what you remembered from your sessions from the previous year (if you remember any!). Please answer all questions as honestly as you can and in as much detail as you are able. After answering, please email the form back to us at our email address, upcm_smu@yahoo.com, with social medicine unit survey as the subject. Thank you again! 1. One of the courses you took during LU IV (your second year of medicine proper) was IDC 203: art of medicine 4 the patient and illness, described as The development of a caring, compassionate, ethical physician, respectful of patients rights, attuned to the treatment not just of the illness, but of the person behind the illness. 1.a. What do you remember was discussed in the course? (i.e. what was the course content?) The fundamental bioethics principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, respect for autonomy, and justice; medical jurisprudence; pedagogy; catharsis, education, action; doctor-patient relationship; doctor-doctor relationship and doctor-doctor marriages. 1.b. Do you feel that these topics will be useful to you? Why do you feel that way? A big YES, for these topics remind me of the first-on-the-list, most basic and most important things that I need to remember as a physician. 1.c. What topics should be added to or removed from the course? Why? None. The content of the course was full and achievable. 1.d. How do you remember the course was delivered? (i.e. what activities did you go through?) Lectures, talks, preceptor-guided group discussions, group creative presentations, students-only group discussions, interactive lectures, question-and-answer/opinion-type talks 1.e. Do you feel that these activities were appropriate for the topics discussed? Why? Yes. They were light, achievable, fun yet objective-directed and topic-appropriate. 1.f. What activities should be added to or removed from the course? Why? Inviting special topic-related/contributory guests would help. 1.g. Please give your overall evaluation of the course, especially with regards to how it can be improved, if you can think of any. The course content including the topics and the activities and techniwues by which they were delivered were good. The only main hindrance to the learning of the students was the timing of the lectures and activities, for they were usually handled Friday afternoons when the LU4 students just had their weekly module examinations in the morning.

2. Another course that you took during LU IV was HS 202: biopsychosocial dimensions of illness, described as Description of the Philippine health situation and health system, maintenance of homeostasis, disease classification and causation including environmental, work-related and occupational factors, reactions to disease agents, impact of illness on individuals, the community, and society and disease prevention. 2.a. What do you remember was discussed in the course? (i.e. what was the course content?) The biopsychosocial approach to the patient and his/her illness; Pathology: basic pathology of diseases and disease classification; Microbiology and Parasitology: the causation of diseases; Family Medicine: Philippine health system and health situation, environmental and occupational factors; Psychology: the psychosocial impact of illnesses on individuals, families and communities. 2.b. Do you feel that these topics will be useful to you? Why do you feel that way? Yes. These topics are a good introduction to how one student-physician should approach the patients he/she will be soon encountering in the next months of LU4 and in the next years to come. 2.c. What topics should be added to or removed from the course? Why? None. 2.d. How do you remember the course was delivered? (i.e. what activities did you go through?) Lectures, group discussions, Pasay visit 2.e. Do you feel that these activities were appropriate for the topics discussed? Why? Yes. They were the optimum approaches to teaching the BPS approach in medicine. 2.f. What activities should be added to or removed from the course? Why? More interaction with the people, may they be patients with illnesses or just Filipino citizens who experience the Philippine healthcare situation. 2.g. Please give your overall evaluation of the course, especially with regards to how it can be improved, if you can think of any. The overall course content was achievable. The individual components (pathology, micro/para, etc.) had good and relevant topics to share to the whole module but as a whole, the different components lacked coordination and smooth flow of related and interdependent topics. 3. Are there any new psychosocial courses that you think should be introduced during LU IV? Uhmmm None. We may want to contact you in the future for a more detailed interview regarding the courses youve just evaluated. This is completely optional on your part, but there might be a free meal in it for you if you do participate! If you are willing to participate in such an interview, please leave your contact details below; if you dont want to, just leave the next area blank. Name:
