Joseph Cadotte (Cadot). (1813- died c.

1863)
Joseph Cadotte, was born circa 1813 at Red River, the Metis son of Laurent Cadotte (b. 1766) and Suzanne (Cree). He married in 1842, Genevieve Picard, born 1825 at Fort Edmonton, the daughter of Joseph Picard and Louise (Saulteaux). Joseph was a Lieutenant in the Indian Department, an interpreter, buffalo hunter and fur trader. The family was enumerated in the 1850 Pembina Census as family # 110. They list Joseph age 37, hunter; Louise age 26; Joseph age 15, hunter; Pierre age 6; Josette age 4; and, Julie age 2½. Joseph and Louise had the following children: • • • • • • Joseph Jr., b. 1834. Genevieve, b. 1844 at St. Norbert, married Alexandre Gariepy. Pierre, b. 1844, married Catherine Desmarais. Josephte, b. 1846. Julienne, b. 1849 at Pembina. Francois Xavier, b. 1854, married Melanie Adam.
