PREFACE
Hymns Made Easy presents 60 standard hymns in simplified form. The hymns are written in two or three parts or voices, rather than the usual four. Some of the hymns have been transposed into keys with fewer sharps or flats to make them easier to read and easier to play. These hymn arrangements provide an intermediate step between easier hymn arrangements in the Keyboard Course manual and more challenging arrangements in Hymns: Simplified Accompaniments (80357) and in the standard hymnbook (31243). These arrangements are designed not only to help students develop their skill but also to accompany hymn singing in Church meetings. A congregation can sing from the hymnbooks while the pianist plays these simplified hymns, despite occasional differences in harmony and key. These same 60 hymns, in the same form in which they appear in the standard hymnbook, are also found in the Selected Hymns booklet (34160). For this reason, Hymns Made Easy will be especially useful for accompanying congregations or other groups using the Selected Hymns booklet. These same 60 hymns are also recorded on cassettes (52427) and compact discs (50080). Listening to these recordings may also be useful to the developing pianist. Both the booklet and recordings are available through Church distribution centers. The hymns in this book include brackets that suggest a suitable introduction for each hymn. The suggested fingering may be helpful to you, but you may also find other fingering patterns that may be even better for you. The chord symbols can be used in playing the hymns on keyboard instruments using a chording method, or on other chording instruments such as guitar. A chord chart is on page 86 for easy reference. A list of hymns, grouped by degree of difficulty, is on page 87. This list may be helpful to the less-experienced pianist. Although titles and verses of hymns in Hymns Made Easy are in English, these easy-to-play hymns can be useful in accompanying hymn singing in any language.

2. For God remembers still His promise made of old That he on Zions hill Truths standard would unfold! Her light should there attract the gaze Of all the world in latter days. Text: Joel H. Johnson, 18021882 Music: Ebenezer Beesley, 18401906. Arr. 1990 IRI

3. His house shall there be reared, His glory to display, And people shall be heard In distant lands to say: Well now go up and serve the Lord, Obey his truth and learn his word.

4. For there we shall be taught The law that will go forth, With truth and wisdom fraught, To govern all the earth. Forever there his ways well tread, And save ourselves with all our dead.

2. Come, make an end to sin And cleanse the earth by fire, And righteousness bring in, That Saints may tune the lyre With songs of joy, a happier strain, To welcome in thy peaceful reign.

3. Hosannas now shall sound From all the ransomed throng, And glory echo round A new triumphal song; The wide expanse of heaven fill With anthems sweet from Zions hill.

4. Hail! Prince of life and peace! Thrice welcome to thy throne! While all the chosen race Their Lord and Savior own, The heathen nations bow the knee, And evry tongue sounds praise to thee.

2. The Lord is extending the Saints understanding, 3. Well call in our solemn assemblies in spirit, Restoring their judges and all as at first. To spread forth the kingdom of heaven abroad, The knowledge and power of God are expanding; That we through our faith may begin to inherit The veil oer the earth is beginning to burst. The visions and blessings and glories of God. Text: William W. Phelps, 17921872. Included in the first LDS hymnbook, 1835. Sung at the Kirkland Temple dedication in 1836. Music: Anon., ca. 1844. 2. Well love one another and never dissemble, But cease to do evil and ever be one. And when the ungodly are fearing and tremble, Well watch for the day when the Savior will come, When all that was promised the Saints will be given, And none will molest them from morn until evn, And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden, And Jesus will say to all Israel, Come home.

3. In faith well rely on the arm of Jehovah To guide thru these last days of trouble and gloom, And after the scourges and harvest are over, Well rise with the just when the Savior doth come. Then all that was promised the Saints will be given, And they will be crownd with the angels of heavn, And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden, And Christ and his people will ever be one.

Text: William W. Phelps, 17921872. Included in the first LDS hymnbook, 1835. Music: Henry Tucker, ca. 1863. Arr. 1990 IRI

2. Humbly kneeling, sweet appealing Twas the boys first uttered prayer When the powrs of sin assailing Filled his soul with deep despair; But undaunted, still he trusted In his Heavnly Fathers care, But undaunted, still he trusted In his Heavnly Fathers care.

3. Suddenly a light descended, Brighter far than noon-day sun, And a shining glorious pillar Oer him fell, around him shone, While appeared two heavnly beings, God the Father and the Son, While appeared two heavnly beings, God the Father and the Son.

4. Joseph, this is my Beloved; Hear him! Oh, how sweet the word! Josephs humble prayer was answered, And he listened to the Lord. Oh, what rapture filled his bosom, For he saw the living God; Oh, what rapture filled his bosom, For he saw the living God.

2. When dark clouds of trouble hang oer us And threaten our peace to destroy, There is hope smiling brightly before us, And we know that delivrance is nigh. We doubt not the Lord nor his goodness. Weve proved him in days that are past. The wicked who fight against Zion Will surely be smitten at last. Text: William Fowler, 18301865 Music: Caroline Sheridan Norton, 1808ca. 1877. Arr. 1990 IRI 3. Well sing of his goodness and mercy. Well praise him by day and by night, Rejoice in his glorious gospel, And bask in its life-giving light. Thus on to eternal perfection The honest and faithful will go, While they who reject this glad message Shall never such happiness know.

2. Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard? Tis not so; all is right. Why should we think to earn a great reward If we now shun the fight? Gird up your loins; fresh courage take. Our God will never us forsake; And soon well have this tale to tell All is well! All is well!

3. Well find the place which God for us prepared, Far away in the West, Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid; There the Saints will be blessed. Well make the air with music ring, Shout praises to our God and King; Above the rest these words well tell All is well! All is well!

4. And should we die before our journeys through, Happy day! All is well! We then are free from toil and sorrow, too; With the just we shall dwell! But if our lives are spared again To see the Saints their rest obtain, Oh, how well make this chorus swell All is well! All is well!

2. Sweet is the day of sacred rest. No mortal care shall seize my breast. Oh, may my heart in tune be found, Like Davids harp of solemn sound!

3. My heart shall triumph in my Lord And bless his works and bless his word. Thy works of grace, how bright they shine! How deep thy counsels, how divine!

4. But, oh, what triumph shall I raise To thy dear name through endless days, When in the realms of joy I see Thy face in full felicity!

5. Sin, my worst enemy before, Shall vex my eyes and ears no more. My inward foes shall all be slain, Nor Satan break my peace again. Text: Isaac Watts, 1674 1748 Music: John J. McClellan, 1874 1925. Arr. 1990 IRI

4. There is gladness in my soul today, And hope and praise and love, For blessings which he gives me now, For joys laid up above.

3. 2. In evry conditionin sickness, in health, In povertys vale or abounding in wealth, At home or abroad, on the land or the sea As thy days may demand, as thy days may demand, As thy days may demand, so thy succor shall be.

4. Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid. Ill strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, Upheld by my righteous, upheld by my righteous, Up held by my righteous , omnipotent hand.

When through the deep waters I call thee to go, The rivers of sorrow shall not thee oerflow, For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless, And sanctify to thee, and sanctify to thee, And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

5. When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply. The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design Thy dross to consume, thy dross to consume, Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.

6. Een down to old age, all my people shall prove 7. The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose My sovreign, eternal, unchangeable love; I will not, I cannot, desert to his foes; And then, when gray hair shall their temples adorn, That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, Like lambs shall they still, like lambs shall they still, Ill never, no never, Ill never, no never, Like lambs shall they still in my bosom be borne. Ill never, no never, no never forsake!

2. We know he is coming To gather his sheep And lead them to Zion in love, For why in the valley Of death should they weep Or in the lone wilderness rove?

3. How long we have wandered 4. As children of Zion, 5. As strangers in sin, Good tidings for us. And cried in the desert for thee! The tokens already appear. Our foes have rejoiced Fear not, and be just, When our sorrows theyve seen, For the kingdom is ours. But Israel will shortly be free. The hour of redemption is near.

Restore, my dear Savior, The light of thy face; Thy soul-cheering comfort impart; And let the sweet longing For thy holy place Bring hope to my desolate heart.

6. He looks! and ten thousands Of angels rejoice, And myriads wait for his word; He speaks! and eternity, Filled with his voice, Re-echoes the praise of the Lord

3. He lives, my kind, wise heavnly Friend. He lives and loves me to the end. He lives, and while he lives, Ill sing. He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King. He lives and grants me daily breath. He lives, and I shall conquer death. He lives my mansion to prepare. He lives to bring me safely there.

4. He lives! All glory to his name! He lives, my Savior, still the same. Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives: I know that my Redeemer lives! He lives! All glory to his name! He lives, my Savior, still the same. Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives: I know that my Redeemer lives!

4. So amid the conflict, whether great or small, 3. When you look at others with their lands and gold, 2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Do not be discouraged; God is over all. Think that Christ has promised you his wealth untold. Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings; angels will attend, Count your many blessings; money cannot buy Count your many blessings; evry doubt will fly, Help and comfort give you to your journeys end. Your reward in heaven nor your home on high. And you will be singing as the days go by. Text: Johnson Oatman Jr., 18561922 Music: Edwin O. Excell, 18511921. Arr. 1990 IRI

For a wise and glorious purpose Thou hast placed me here on earth And withheld the recollection Of my former friends and birth; Yet ofttimes a secret something Whispered, Youre a stranger here, And I felt that I had wandered From a more exalted sphere. Text: Eliza R. Snow, 18041887 Music: James McGranahan, 18401907. Arr. 1990 IRI 3. I had learned to call thee Father, Thru thy Spirit from on high, But, until the key of knowledge Was restored, I knew not why. In the heavns are parents single? No, the thought makes reason stare! Truth is reason; truth eternal Tells me Ive a mother there. 4. When I leave this frail existence, When I lay this mortal by, Father, Mother, may I meet you In your royal courts on high? Then, at length, when Ive completed All you sent me forth to do, With your mutual approbation Let me come and dwell with you.

2. I am a child of God, And so my needs are great; Help me to understand his words Before it grows too late. 3. I am a child of God. Rich blessings are in store; If I but learn to do his will Ill live with him once more. 4. I am a child of God. His promises are sure; Celestial glory shall be mine If I can but endure.
