METHODS OF FLUORIDE DELIVERY:

SYSTEMIC
Dietary fluoride:
Eg. cereals, pulses, leafy vegetables, fruits, fish, meat.

MECHANISM OF ACTION OF FLUORIDE
Professionally applied:
Eg. Fluoride gels, varnish, foam, prophylactic pastes. Agents used: 2.26% NaF 8% SnF 1.23% APF

TOPICAL
Self applied products
Eg.Fluoridated dentrifrice (1000ppm NaF),

Water fluoridation:
Recommended concentration is 0.7 1.2

Fluoride supplements:
Eg. Fluoridated salt, sugar, milk, lozenges, drops

Prevents demineralization of tooth structure by forming fluorapatite

Promotes remineralisation of incipient carious lesions

Inhibits acid generat -ion by plaque bacteria

Fluoride mouth rinse (0.31%APF or 0.4%SnF), Fluoride foam (200 1000 ppm), Toothpicks, dental floss, chewing gums
