he River Cities’ Reader’s Regional Beer
& Wine Guide is, frst, a tool to navigate
the oferings at this year’s River City Beer
Festiv-Ale (on August 27) and WQPT Brew Ha Ha
(on September 18).
But it’s also something to keep around, a way to
explore the current craf-beer boom on your own
schedule.
Tis guide includes descriptions of more than
300 beers found at Festiv-Ale, Brew Ha Ha, or
both. Beyond helping you get around the two
events, these can help you decide if you want to
buy this beer or that one at the store, discover
brews you haven’t tried before, and make requests
at your favorite retailer, restaurant, or bar.
For people who want to drink local (or visit
places where local beverages are made), we’ve
included a listing of breweries and wineries within
120 driving miles of the Quad Cities. Tere are
also listings of local home-brewing clubs and
supply stores, as well as other nearby beer and
wine festivals.
If the volume and exoticness of these listings
intimidate you, there are many resources that
can give you some basic beer knowledge – for
example, BeerAdvocate.com/beer/101. But the
best way to learn about beer and discover your
tastes is to drink it. Find something that sounds
appealing and give it a try – at either of these local
festivals or at home.
River City Beer Festiv-Ale will take place
on Saturday, August 27, from 2 to 6 p.m. on
Rock Island’s Great River Plaza (in front of
RIBCO). Admission is $20, which includes a
commemorative mini-pilsner sampling glass,
14 sampling tickets, and admission to the
night’s entertainment at RIBCO, featuring Te
UniPhonics. Additional sampling tickets can be
purchased at the event. For more information, visit
RIBCO.com.WQPT Brew Ha Ha will take place
on Saturday, September 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. in
Davenport’s LeClaire Park. Advance tickets are
$20, and admission is $25 at the gate. For tickets or
more information, visit WQPT.org/brew.

ABITA BREWING
TURBODOG
A dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and
a combination of pale, crystal and chocolate malts.
This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and
color and a sweet chocolate toffee-like flavor. Turbodog
began as a specialty ale but has gained a huge loyal
following and has become one of our flagship brews.
PURPLE HAZE
A crisp, American style wheat beer with raspberry
puree added after filtration. Therefore, you may see
raspberry pulp in the beer. The raspberries provide the
lager with a subtle purple coloration and haze, a fruity
aroma, and a tartly sweet taste.
JOCKAMO IPA
A traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale
and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color
and malty flavor. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts
nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo
has a flavor that entices and excites the palate.
ACE CIDER (SEBASTOPOL, CA)
PEAR CIDER
Evokes the same flavors as a bite out of a freshly
picked pear.
ACE JOKER DRY
HARD CIDER
Is champagne like in flavor and has an 8% alcohol
content. Better Watch Out!
APPLE CIDER
Is a dry cider, made from 6 varieties of apples, and
the closest thing to a traditional European cider.
ANCHOR BREWING CO.
(SAN FRANCISCO, CA)
STEAM BEER
A deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor.
LIBERTY ALE
Brewed strictly according to traditional brewing
methods and like all Anchor Brewing CO. products, uses
only natural ingredients – water, malted barley, fresh
whole hops and yeast.
PORTER
Is hopped at a very high rate, and is naturally
carbonated to produce an intensely rich flavor and
thick creamy head.
ANHEUSER-BUSCH
COMPANIES, INC.

It’s Bud Light with a twist of 100% natural lime flavor.
LANDSHARK
A refreshing, drinkable island lager brewed with a
complex blend of hops...giving the beer a distinctive
hop note taste.
SHOCK TOP RASPBERRY
The smooth taste you expect from Shock Top with a hint
of Raspberry flavor. This traditional Belgian-Style wheat
ale is brewed with wild raspberry essence and hand-
selected hops which gives the brew a crisp and distinctive
taste with a flavorful twist. This unfiltered ale has a light
golden color and a smooth, refreshing finish that makes it
the perfect balance of flavor and refreshment.
BUD SELECT 55
A smooth, light golden lager with 55 calories and
the crisp, clean finish of Budweiser Select. Select 55 is
brewed with caramel malts and a blend of imported
and domestic hopping. Has a light golden color and
offers aroma notes of toasted malt and subtle hopping.
MARGARITAVILLE SPIKED TEA
Brewed with a blend of fine select teas and a splash
of 100% natural lemon flavor. This 5.5% alcohol by
volume tea is non-carbonated, smooth, and slightly
sweet for a result that is all refreshing.
MARGARITAVILLE HARD
LEMONADE
Spiked Lemonade is finely carbonated, with 100%
natural lemon flavor. This 5.5% alcohol by volume
lemonade offers perfectly balanced taste and smooth
refreshment.

citrusy hop aroma and bitterness.
OCTOBERFEST
Brewed with the perfect balance of Pale, Munich, and
Cara Pils malt with Liberty and Perle hops to create a
rich, smooth taste.

time, brewed with noblest raw materials. The high-
class product of the old-Bavarian brewing art. A great
treat for every beer expert.
AVERY BREWING CO.
(BOULDER, CO)
KARMA BELGIAN PALE
ALE
Inspired by the farmhouse and pale ales of Belgium
this summer brew is a decidedly fruity and estery ale,
intricate in body and nose, all driven by a unique
Belgian yeast strain. 10 IBUs, 5.2% ABV.
WHITE RASCAL BELGIAN WHITE
As with authentic Belgian-style wheat ales, this beer
is unfiltered and cleverly spiced with coriander and
Curacao orange peel producing a fruity thirst quencher.
10 IBUs, 5.6% ABV.
MAHARAJA IMPERIAL IPA
This imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty! This
beer flaunts its authority over a deranged amount of
hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane
amount of malted barley. 102 IBUs, 10.24 % ABV.
18TH ANNIVERSARY
RYE SAISON
Five different Belgian yeast strands add their own
unique aspect to this dry-hopped saison. The hefty

due to generous dry hopping. 77 IBUs, 6.9% ABV.
LEVITATION
This deep amber ale is rich in malt flavors, has a big
hoppy character, and citrus overtones due to the hops
and Stone’s special brewers yeast. 45 IBUs, 4.4% ABV.
PALE ALE
Stone’s flagship ale is a SoCal interpretation of the
British classic style. An ale for those who appreciate
distinctive flavor with a delicate hop flavor balanced by
a rich maltiness. 41 IBUs, 5.4% ABV.
SUBLIMELY SELF RIGHTEOUS ALE
Originally brewed as the 11th Anniversary Ale, this Ale was
such a hit that it was renamed and put into full year-round
production. Chinook, Simcoe, and Amarillo hops gives it the
bitterness, its roast the blackness, and the liquid dichotomy
pulls it all together. 90 IBUs, 8.7 % ABV.
RUINATION IPA
So named for the “ruinous effect on your palate, this
massive hop monster has an intensely bitter flavor on
a refreshing malt base. 100+ IBUs, 7.7% ABV.
ARROGANT BASTARD
This is an aggressive ale and if you don’t like it Stone
really doesn’t care! Brewed first in 1997, this ale
challenged “tyrannical overlords” who were brazenly
attempting to keep Americans chained in the shackles
of poor taste. An uncompromising and unprecedented
celebration of intensity embodying the true nature of
liquid arrogance. Hops and IBUs (classified), 7.2% ABV.
OAKED ARROGANT BASTARD
One of the many spinoffs that Stone has put on their
monster ale, the subtleness of the oak helps to round
out this mouthful of goodness!
Hops and IBUs (classified), 7.2% ABV.
BELGO ANISE IMPERIAL
RUSSIAN STOUT
This 2011 odd year release has aromatic tones of
anise, coffee, and cocoa. Dark roasted malt and coffee
flavors dominate with a compliment of anise, oak,
vanilla and licorice on the palate. 52 IBUs, 10.5% ABV.

here are plenty of new and exciting happenings at WQPT
and your attendance at Brew Ha Ha helps to make it all
possible. We’ve started a new public afairs program called
“The Cities with Jim Mertens” which airs each Thursday
night at 6:30 pm and Sunday at 5:30 pm. We have
a new community calendar called “Out and About”
and we are in pre-production for a new arts program.
We’ve got a new performance program called “WIU
Presents” and MHz Worldview, WQPT’s second channel,
has become a great place to discover news, dramas, documentaries
and entertainment programming with an international fair. And
that is just what is happening on television. In the community we
continue to give books to low-literate, low income children, train
teachers and visit in schools. Coming up in October we are creating
our second event in conjunction with the remarkable documentary
“Freedom Riders” that tells the story of the bus riders who wanted
to peacefully protest segregation and were met with violence in the
Deep South during 1961. Our speaker will be Diane Nash, one of
the leaders of that movement. To fnd out more visit our
website and plan on attending this very special event
on October 15
th
at the Martin Luther King Community
Center in Rock Island.
Finally, our sponsors, vendors, committee members and
volunteer corp are extraordinary and WQPT wants to say a very big
THANK YOU to everyone who works so tirelessly to make Brew Ha Ha
such a wonderful time along the Mississippi. We hope you’ll “like” us on
Facebook and check out our website at wqpt.org to fnd out more about
the station. Thank you for attending our 12
th
annual tasting event.

Regional Listings
Breweries
(Breweries within 120 driving miles, listed in order of proximity to the Quad Cities, closest to farthest.)
RIBCO's Festiv-Ale and WQPT’s Brew Ha Ha are great ways to explore the world of beer, and the Quad Cities
and surrounding areas offer plenty of opportunities for further adventures, with nearly 20 breweries and 50
wineries within 120 road miles. Use this guide as a way to spot local beer and wine at your grocery or liquor
store, or use it as a starting point for day trips. (Be sure to call your intended destination ahead of time for its
public hours, whether they offer tours and tastings, etc.) If you’re interested in making beer or wine, we also
list local home-brewing clubs and home-brewing supply stores.
