/Producer MIDTOWN ² Jimmy Whittemore, 22, said he was "ashamed" in an interview with the Daily News. Whittemore allegedly broke into and trashed the Ed Sullivan Theatre while drunk on Sunday, DNAinfo previously reported. Whittemore was the subject of jokes during David Letterman's monologue during Monday's Late Show. "I just want to apologize to the theater people," Whittemore said in the interview. "I'm ashamed. I'm still bothered." "I wanted to go out and do karaoke," he said."I wanted to have fun. I never meant for this happen." Whittemore said that he did not realize he had ransacked the lobby of the Ed Sullivan Theatre until he was arrested. "Next thing I remember is laying down on the floor, surrounded by cops," he said. Prosecutors have said Whittemore, a resident of Harlem, allegedly broke phones and printers, and urinated on broken doors, racking up over $5,000 in damage. Whittemore is charged with felony burglary and mischief. Whittemore told the News that the will stay away from liquor, but will support his acting career by working as bartender in a Midtown tavern. Letterman reportedly was understanding during his show¶s monologue on Monday, noting that when he was young urinated on a subway platform while drunk. Whittemore is scheduled back in court on Friday.
