Dear NABJ Students: We made history. For the first time in NABJ history, there was a tie in the national board elections. The student representative candidates received 69 votes each in addition to two students choosing to abstain. It is clear that the student members are divided. We have two qualified candidates, however, I am writing this letter to request that you vote for Marissa Evans. I believe she has the vision and drive to be our sole voice on the NABJ national board. Marissa is a proven leader. She founded the NABJ chapter at her university during her freshman year and was able to take four members of her chapter to this year’s convention in Philadelphia. Marissa has a vision. She has already laid out plans to increase student involvement that include revamping the student mentoring program and a Road to NOLA savings campaign. Only 140 students out of over 1000 voted in the last election. It is obvious that we are not as engaged as we should be. The student members of NABJ need a dedicated leader, someone who will jump in the trenches and speak up for us. We need a leader that will inspire us. I believe Marissa Evans is that leader. Sincerely,
Ashleigh L. Atwell
