at 759 Broadway at the Corner of Saint James St. Kingston mayoral candidate Andi Turco-Levin is announcing that she is working with the City of Kingston Common Council’s Finance Committee to begin an internal investigation of City Hall’s dealings with contractors who were hired to demolish the former Kings Inn motel. According to published reports in the Daily Freeman and also from Kingston Police sources, a number of possible improprieties have already occurred which may cost the taxpayers of Kingston dearly. Andi Turco-Levin was quoted as saying, “Besides the initial cost to demolish the Kings Inn, we now have cost overruns of $135,000 to remove asbestos, which no one looked into beforehand, we have accusations of the removal of copper piping that were reported as a theft, in addition to questions of the hiring practice with their employees. These additional costs and liabilities may cause the City to lose its bonding for the job.” Alderwoman Turco-Levin added,” I’ve contacted the Mayor about this. The Common Council’s Finance Committee is frequently asked for more funding for these projects, and there is a clear lack of proper initial contract procedures and lack of oversight of existing contracts. We need an Ethics Panel to review this fiasco and put Kingston on a more practical and ethical financial footing.” Ms. Andi Turco-Levin, if elected Mayor, has pledged to utilize a Board of Ethics for the City of Kingston, as established in the City Charter, but never activated by the current administration despite repeated ethics problems. Alderwoman Turco-Levin is the Republican nominee and candidate for Mayor of Kingston in the Republican Primary this September 13.
