CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

1 - 2 . Purpose
This manual IS for the use of the HLT, VLT, a n d OST operators d u r i n g tactical operation of the PERSHING l a Field Artillery Missile System. It may b e used In conjunction with T M 9 - 1 4 2 5 - 3 8 1 - 1 0 , which contains procedures In abbreviated tabular f o r m .

CAUTION: When removing equipment from container, do not discard rubber padding. This padding must be reused for storing the equipment.

Lay 6 0 W 4 4 P 2 to PTS tactical cable ent r y panel a n d lay P I ends of two 6 0 W 4 3 cables to PTS c o m m u n ~ c a t ~ o n s cable entry panel. Connect two 6 0 W 4 3 cables to J 1 a n d J 4 on PTS communicat~onscable entry panel. Assisted by OST OP, emplace HLT tent (fig. 3 - 5 . 1 ) by performing ( 2 ) through (10 ) below. NOTE. When emplacing HLT tent, insure that S T - 1 2 0 prism wlndow and OST will be visible to HLT through tent windows.

Lay guy lines parallel to each tent side, drive a stake approx~mately 1.8 meters ( 6 feet) f r o m tent side in l ~ n ewith each guy line.

NOTE. When tent is raised, poles must be in vertical p o s i t ~ o n .

Attach guy llnes to stakes, and adjust guy llnes as necessary to properly support tent. Secure tent slde walls topoles. Turn tent slde wall bottom flaps inside tent, and drive stakes to secure tent sides to ground Place sandbags as shown 1nflgure3-5.1. ZIP closed tent corners that are not used for access. Open wlndows as required for azimuth laying. Insure that tle straps will not interfere wrth zlppers In windows and access corner. NOTE. Insure that chucks on adjustable legs a r e adjusted loose enough to p e r m ~ operation of handcranks, but not t loose enough to allow tripod to wobble. While operating handcranks, s u p p o r t u p per portion of t r ~ p o dso that adjustable legs can be extended and retracted without b ~ n d i n g . (5) Loosen chucks on adjustable legs, and level tripod by simultaneously operating handcranks until b u b b l e In level is centered. Place sandbag on tripod spreader, and check level. Obtain bed assembly from position next to a u x ~ i ~ a requipment vehicle, position y i t on tripod so that carriage thumbscrew IS facing away f r o m semifixed leg, a n d secure it with tripod retainer assembly. Loosen carriage thumbscrew, and move carrlage over one of t h e hand openings in bed assembly. Obtain carrying case containing theodolite from position next to auxlllary equipment vehicle, and place carrying case on a f~rm, level surface near tripod. Grasp carrying strap just above the two clamps, and pull it in an outward direction, releasing clamps from base assembly. Lift hood from base assembly.

(10) Loosen telescope clamp knob, and rotate telescope to h o r ~ z o n t a l p o s i t ~ o n . T~ghten clamp knob. Loosen three lever nuts on base assembly, a n d slide levers away from base of theodolite.

CAUTION: When lifting theodolite, do not grasp large side of alidade (lefthand axle bearing). Failure to observe this caution will place undue pressure on collimation lever and make readjustment of collimation lever necessary. Lift theodol~te f r o m base assembly by grasplng small srde of alidade (righthand axle bearing) with one hand, w h ~ l e steady~ng theodolite wrth other hand.

Remove cover f r o m ALCB, and install ALCB on tripod. Place cover in a n area where it w ~ l lb e out of the way and can b e recoversd easily. Open theodolite horizontal circle illuminating m i r r o r . NOTE. For night operations, refer to chapter 7, section V .

Sight telescope on center of ST- 1 2 0 prism window. Rotate telescope eyepiece until reticle is sharply d e f ~ n e d . Loosen carriage thumbscrew, and move carriage until objective end of telescope is reflected i n the prism. Tighten carriage thumbscrew. Connect cable f r o m autoreflector lens assembly to THEOD LAMP receptacle on ALCB. NOTE. If leveling has been previously performed, adjust screws only as required to achieve level condition.

Loosen horizontal clamp knob and t u r n three leveling screws fully counterclockwise; then p e r f o r m fine l e v e l i n g as follows: ( a ) Rotate alidade until axis of plate level is parallel to a line through any two of the three leveling screws.

( e ) Repeat ( a ) , ( c ) , and ( d ) above until bubble comes to rest centered in ~ t vlal in both of these posit~ons. s ( f ) Rotate alidade through 3 , 2 0 0 m i l s ( 1 8 0 " ) f r o m its position in ( a ) above; bubble should remain centered in its vlal. If bubble comes to rest off center, adjust plate level as prescribed in T M 9. 1430-381-14. (6) Insure that HLT remalns level d u r i n g laying procedures, and repeat p o s ~ t i o n i n g a n d leveling operations as required.

Rotate azimuth screw until vertical reticle lines a r e alined on center of autoreflect~onlens assembly housing of OST. Adjust telescope eyepiece as required. Adjust telescope focusingtubeon theodo. lite until autoreflector of OST is sharply defined. Rotate altitude and azimuth screws until autoreflector is centered on single vertical reticle h e , and edges of autoreflector c o i n c ~ d ewith intersections of double vertical reticle lines a n d horizontal reticle line. Allow OST OP to a l ~ n ehis instrument on autoreflector of HLT. Repeat ( 4 ) a n d ( 5 ) above until autoreflector remains properly centered in reticles of both theodolites. Adjust focus of microscope eyepiece. Verify that inverter knob is set to horizontal. Rotate HLT micrometer knob to the decimal value on micrometer circle scale, and rotate horizontal drive knob for coincidence on horizontal circle scale at value announced by OST OP. Close horizontal circle drive cover.

If ST. 1 2 0 prlsm cannot be seen through telescope, repeat sequences 7 a n d 8 ( 3 ) through ( 5 ) above, sequence 9 (1) through ( 8 ) above (reciprocal collimat ~ o nw ~ t h the OST), a n d (1) through ( 3 ) above, Repeat the operation, if required, until the prlsm can b e seen.

( b ) Turn these two screws clockwise two complete turns. ( c ) Center bubble in level by rotating these two leveltng screws equally i n opposlte directions. ( d ) Rotatealldade through 1 , 6 0 0 mils ( 9 0 ° ) , and center bubble ~n level by rotating t h i r d leveling screw. ( e ) Repeat ( a ) , ( c ) , and ( d ) above until bubble comes to rest centered in its vial in both of these positions.
( f ) Rotate alidade through 3 , 2 0 0 mils ( 1 8 0 " ) f r o m its position in ( a ) above, bubble should remain centered i n ~ t s vial. If bubble comes to rest off center, adjust plate level as prescribed in T M 9 1430-381-14

Rotate HLT to view S T - 1 2 0 and verify that autoreflector is centered i n reticle. If autoreflector is not centered, loosen carriage thumbscrew a n d repeat ( 2 ) a n d ( 3 ) above a n d this step until autoreflector remains centered.

Reciprocally collimate HLT with OST and set HLT scale (seq 9 ( 1 ) through ( 8 . 1 ) above). Rotate HLT to view S T - 1 2 0 ; trghten telescope a n d horizontal clamp knobs. Rotate azimuth and altitude screws until autocollimation is achieved. Request OIC to verify H L T horrzontal scale reading. NOTE. Omit for vertical l a y ~ n g . When LAY PLATF ~ n d i c a t o r on ALCB lights, set and hold PLATF CONTROL swrtch to approprlate L or R posrtion u n t ~ reflected image of autoreflector can l b e seen In HLT telescope. NOTE. If autoreflector cannot b e seen because prism is n o longer visible in telescope, translate HLT and proceed to sequences 7 through 1 7 above. Adjust telescope focusing tube until autoreflector IS sharply defined In reticle. Set and hold PLATF CONTROL s w ~ t c h to appropriate L or R p o s i t ~ o n u n t ~ l autoreflector is approximately centered In r e t ~ c l e . NOTE if faster ST 120 r o t a t ~ o n a rate l is required, press RESET switch to obtain fast slew rate, LAY PLATF indtcator lights for 5 seconds and then starts flashing, i n d ~ c a t i n greturn to fine slew rate Repeat ( 3 ) above

If a faster S T - 1 2 0 r o t a t i o n a l speed is required t o achieve a u t o c o l l i r ~ i a t i o n ,press RESET switch; when LAY PLATF indicator l i g h t s , proceed t o sequence 1 9 ( 3 ) above. When satisfied that autoreflector w ~ l l remain in alinement without further adjustment, notify supervisor that MONITOR switch can b e pressed. Request OIC to verify autocollimation l and h o r ~ z o n t ascale setting to FA NOTE. When M O N I T O R swrtch is pressed (MONITOR indicator lrghts and LAY PLATF indicator goes out), the 6 0 second o p t ~ c a lmonitoring period IS inltiated. D u r i n g this time, theautoreflector is lighted for 5 5 seconds and then flashes for 5 seconds.

NOTE. Perform (1) through ( 4 ) below for each separation spring.

Obtain compression tool and insert flange of compression tool over plunger of each separation spring assembly so that flange is po~ntedtoward center of guidance sect~on. Push in and rotate s tool body clockwise so that flange 1 securely seated on inside surface of guidance section structural ring.

WARNING: Separation springs require 380 kilograms (850 pounds) of pressure to compress. Make certain that compression tool is securely seated before removing spring retaining tool. To prevent unintentional rotation of compression tool body, hold compression tool body while spring is being decompressed.

Hold compression tool body and turn crank clockwise u n t ~ lspring retaining tools can be removed. Hold compression tool body and turn s crank counterclockw~se until shaft 1 completely retracted. Rotate compression tool body counterclockw~se until flange is disengaged. Store compression tool and sprlng retain~ng tools in travel position.

Angular drsplacement (drift) of ST-120 may be estimated by using the lateral distance between the double vertical reticle lines as a reference. The angle represented by this distance is approximately 0 . 2 mil.
