Shelley Penn is a Melbourne based archi-

her practice, and through writing, teach-
ing and lecturing about architecture and
design. Shelley is particularly concerned
with the social and public benefits of
good design, and the poetic capacity of
architecture to enrich the human condi-
tion. Her work with government includes
a term as Design Director in the Office of
the NSW Government Architect, member-
ship of the Victorian Design Advisory
Council, and her on-going role as Urban
Design Consultant to government for the
