if you: • Are a Canadian citizen • Are 18 years of age or older on voting day • Are a resident of the NWT for a full year You must be registered with Elections NWT before you can vote so check out the voters’ list to make sure your name is there. It is especially important if you recently turned 18 years old, or moved to or within the NWT, or changed your last name (e.g., after marriage) The DEADLINE for getting your name on the voters’ list is: September 14, 2011 at 1:00 pm The Returning Officer for Yellowknife Centre is Amanda Mallon. The office is located on the main floor of the Yellowknife Centre Shopping Mall and her phone number is 867-669-7006. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday anytime until election day. To get on the voters’ list you need to provide proof of your identity and your address. There are three options: • Show 1 piece of picture ID (driver’s license or general ID card) OR • Show 2 pieces of ID with your name AND ADDRESS e.g. SIN, Treaty Card, birth certificate, power bill, phone bill, bank statement • A person from the same riding who is on the voters list can vouch for you YOU CAN BEAT THE ELECTION RUSH VOTE in the Office of the Returning Officer, from September 21st to October 1st, and through special ballots. If you are temporarily out of town, you can apply online for a special ballot, and it will be mailed to you.
