O How have your studies strengthened your understanding oI this outcome?

ELLC Standard 4 reIers to school leaders collaborating with Iamilies and other members
oI the community as a response to a diverse environment. Wilmore (2002) explained,
'DiIIerent groups address issues Irom divergent perspectives due to various Iactors such
as race, gender, religion, culture, and politics (p. 67). Schools should encourage parents
to share inIormation about their children`s linguistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Teachers can use this inIormation to include materials and examples that reIlect students
in lesson plans. School leaders can provide opportunities Ior parents to visit the school
and share aspects oI their background.

Administrators should establish a level oI trust among all parents. Parents should Ieel
welcome to participate in school activities. Teachers and administrators could oIIer to
visit the Iamily`s home iI parents would preIer this arrangement. Written communication
should be in languages that all parents could understand (Arias & Campbell-Morillo,
2008). Educational leaders should build relationships with the community. Taxpayers
vote to determine iI a levy will pass. The majority oI taxpayers do not have children
enrolled in public schools (Sorenson, Goldsmith, Mendez, & Maxwell, 2011).
O How do Specialization Outcome 5 and ELLC Standard 4 align?
Specialization Outcome 5 examines eIIective communication with multiple stakeholders
through group processes and collaboration. Standard 4 identiIies the need to consider
diversity when collaborating with Iamilies and other community members. Both
Specialization Outcome 5 and Standard 4 acknowledge the importance oI establishing
alliances between schools and the community. Partnerships with parents and other
members oI the community are valuable resources Ior a school. Stakeholders should
participate in the process oI developing and implementing strategies to enhance student
achievement.
O What reIerences support your new understanding oI this outcome? (Please provide an
annotated bibliography Ior any books and articles reIerenced within your post. You may

American schools are becoming more diverse. English Language Learners (ELLs) are
becoming the Iastest growing population in public schools. Parents oI ELLs might be
hesitant to interact with school staII due to cultural diIIerences or language barriers.
Parental involvement is important to improve student achievement, promote better school
attendance, and reduce dropout rates.

Education leaders should promote high standards, build partnerships with Iamilies and
the community, respect diversity, and continuously improve. Schools must consider the
support that is necessary to secure Iunding Irom levies. Most taxpayers do not have
