THE WHITE HOUSE The White House is the home of the president of the United States of America.

It is also recognized as an American symbol all around the world. With its address, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the white house is often known to have the most famous address in the U.S. The construction was started in 1792 and ended in 1800. Architect Pierre LEnfant (helped plan the lay out of Washington D.C.) and president at the time George Washington, chose the site of the home of the president, it wasnt actually known as The White House until 1901 when President Teddy Roosevelt christened it The White House. There was a contest to choose the architect of the house, James Hoban an Irish man beat 8 other contestants with his handsome design. Although its been thru plenty of renovations and expansions The White House contains 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels. Theres also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases, and 3 elevators. It was built in the first place because President George Washington said that The President should have a home to live in that was recognized when some one passed it. The White House now is still used by U.S. presidents; in fact all presidents except G. Washington have lived in it because President Washington was only able to watch the construction of the house before his time as a president was up. Presidents across the years have added different rooms and places to the white house; Bill Clinton added a running track, Dwight Eisenhower added a putting green, and Richerd Nixon added a bowling alley. Also presidents

Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy bodies still lie in the state in the East Room. People still come from all around the world to see the white house in Washington D.C.
