- If DE playing wide, run STOP and kick him out with Tackle staying on him. It’s like ISO to sweeper. + They don’t force sweep, rather go to STOP. + Rarely they make “LOAD” call and crack. Tackle goes to ILB. + Start by telling PT reach. + They WANT to doubleteam # 2. 70 % of time 221. X comes off if 2 gets off underneath and X looks for most dangerous ( usually 3 or 4 ). If # 2 gets off outside, X stays with him and Slot looks for most dangerous. First 2 weeks don’t tell anyone to come off. + GOAL for tackle is stop DT’s feet. + Don’t pull guards because when they don’t pull they limit flow ( no run throughs) and back can cut back. ( Make a hole first, limit flow 2nd ).

- Used with EAT, OUT OUT, WALL, GAS blocking. + OUT OUT esp. against 7 and 9. + GAS good on goalline. ++ Esp. good against moving defenses. ++ Blocking back has to look for ILB as he takes first flat step. ++ Can be run to GT side only. With OUT call. - RED LIGHT ‘EAT” blocking is crossblock between T and TE with sweeper carring ball. + Good vs. all fronts.

- With EAT blocking, TACKLE calls CRASH ( Crossblock ) or BASE ( Man on blocking ). If Tackle sees defender headon or if he thinks the DT is pinching or slanting away, Tackle calls BASE. If DT playing outside shoulder or head on and coming straight ahead, tackle calls “CRASH”. - FB blocks first man he finds in hole. FB always goes C gap. + Guard looks for LBer run through first before going backside combo. If LBer walks up, guard has LBer all the way. - Vs. a heavy reader OUT OUT call can be used. If EAT not working, try OUT. Probably hard reading DE squeezing TE. OUT OUT should work. ( Reach influence ) OLINEMAN’s hand goes to inside shoulder not outside.

- They have STRONG and QUICK side. TE goes strongside unless formation has ‘JO” added to it. - They would rather run GO vs. slanting team than ISO. - CLINTON is an outside QB KEEPand FOLLOW is an inside QB KEEP. - BELLY is a path. It tells HB to run a BELLY path. Coule be used with several kinds of blocking ( standard, Guard etc. ) - GO and QUICK are equivalent except QUICK is usually run from M position behind QB. - GO/QUICK are short trap schemes. However, GO is man blocking vs. ODD. - If a team has “1 in the box” against their 1 back formation, they will run without motion. Example STAR Formation vs 1 in the box they run ISO weak - Veer path 6 yards. - Most options not really read. - STRIKE is a LONG TRAP scheme to the weak side. - Against a 50 with Nose moving a lot, run GO. - For Willamette, GUARD is weak guard pulling and TRAP is strong guard pulling.They don’t run BELLY GUARD vs. a 3 ( left ) because G&T have to be good. They’d rather run GO at 3 tech. (right) probably GO GOB

You want to see what playside ILB does on sweep. KEYS: + Who inside does fake hold? + Who takes off and runs with sweep. + If schemes require too much discussion among coaches, forget them. Players won’t get. ISO not good vs. 50 PINCH. - FAN block ISO vs pinch if you handle NOSE. - Don’t like WR blocking Corner on FLYS. Only makes sense vs. Bump man. + They have WR just run off Corner if he has 1. + Makes sense if C crashing. + They make sweep call sometimes if C coming. + Fly good goalline play. - If DE playing wide, run STOP and kick him out with Tackle staying on him. It’s like ISO to sweeper. + They don’t force sweep, rather go to STOP. - If DE on air, Run GUARD + They’ll call SWEEP GUARD or SWEEP GUARD FOLLOW. + SWEEP GUARD is GRREN LIGHT SWEEP with GUARD blocking when DE is crashing. ++ Very good 1 back play. ++ They really like GUAD blocking scheme. They like YELLOW on goalline. - THEY WANT 2 GUYS on # 2 - COUNTER path for backs is open step and then go. - TELL QBS - “GIVE LONG ( extend arms more) FAKE SHORT ( keep arms tight ). - When you are having Guards tracking, if they come off and say they can’t get playside LBer, that LB is fliying out so run something like GO at him. - Minus Nose must be handled by PG and Center. On RED LIGHT when DT and DE are outside leverage, take advantage of that and run OUT OUT blocking. Then you have to get teh 3 tech to stop his feet. - If FB has to stop and turn back, FB is wrong. - When dbs locked up, nasty split crack on inside plays good because it’s two for one block. - Could always hand WHITE when 2 backers step up like BULLETS.

- On JO call X flips along with TE. - Put better T on STR side. - When Guard is going to block DE, + If DE spills, Guard logs him. + If DE faces him, he attacks DE with correct shoulder ( pull right-hit right ) + If DE runs upfield, he kicks DE out. - Call KEEP ( QB ) when DE spilling. - GREEN BAY is DICKEM play, looks like Speedy except no QB read. NEVER FAKE SOMETHING YOU AREN’T GOING TO DO. - FOOD call is EAT blocking with GREEN LIGHT blocking. STAR 48 FLY FOOD. - FROM DAY 1 Backs have to know 1 and 3 tech. Makes difference on GO, BELLY, QUICK, and 90. + Sometimes call WEDGE on short yardage. PAIRED PLAYS BELLY/ICE GO/QUICK COUNTER/STRIKE- Blocked same different ballcarrier. Both cross action. To quick side away from motion. COUNTER/SCISSORS - Counter long trap to quick side. Scissors is GUARD blocking scheme to strong side. - DON’T THINK oF TE as strong side. - SCISSORS is a long trap to strong side with motion. So is BELLY GUARD. can be folded also. - Can run RED and YELLOW with endover. - QB handoff on STRIKE is one handed. - 90 VIRGINIA PATTERN + Receiver reads DB by 5th step. If he can go deep, just keeps running. Puts up hand if he is going to break it off as out. ++ QB watching for hand. - In redzone if CB axing ink on WR, run him off. XP FAKE FLOOD. SEEK MOTION

Then after snap: + Who is force? + Is fake holding anyone? + Is anyone tackling fake? ++ Receiver coach looking for open middle. ++ Someone watching point of attack. # 2 vs. 221 example. ++ Someone watch ST to see if DE reacting to down blocks. ( Line coach ) HAVE CHECKLIST PLAY 3 - Did ILB follow guard? YES ____ NO ______ Counter trap white. CLINIC is first weekend of MAY. Starts Friday ends mid day Sat.

HOLE - The HOLE is the box area away from motion from the Guard to just outside the TE or where the TE would be shallower than DB depth 6 yards. - Run that area vs. 1 in the hole. - Avoid that area with 2 in the hole, or put TE on that side also. - IMPORTANT TO KNOW is there 2 in the hole BEFORE or AFTER motion.

MOTION ADJUSTMENT DESCRIPTION - First box description should be number of men in box and how they react to motion. “ Runner and 2 in the box”

QUESTIONS 1. They said SPECK ( man ) blocking can be used with BELLY (ISO). If that is a sabse blocking scheme, who does back block when Olineman is blocking LBER? - They also said they coukld use GUARD blocking. Again, who does back block? YES HE LEADS ON SWEEP 2. On Go does TB run directly over Center? PATH IS OVER THE CENTER FROM THE SPLITBACK SET, OBVIOUSLY HAS TO AVOID THE QB, WILL TAKE THE BALL FROM THE QB SLIGHTLY TO THE QUICK SIDE BESIDE THE QB. 3. When you are running REDLIGHT EAT against a 50, does the playside guard try to cutoff the Lber in front of him or combo with the center on the Nose & backside lber? G HAS RUN THRU BLITZ. IF HB OVER HIM IS “THERE HE WILL TAKE HIM, IF LBER IS RUNNING TO SWEEP HE WILL HAVE BACKSIDE GUY, IF LBER IS IN B GAP (BLITZ) WE EXPECT GUARD TO CUT HIM OFF. 4. When you run REDLIGHT with FAN blocking, is it the Guard and Tackle who are blocking out ( against a 50 I presume? If so is the FB leading through inside the guard on the Lber and does the sweeper turn up in the A gap. I don’t think I have this right because I don’t see how the FB beats the sweeper through the hole. IT IS THE T AND TE BLOCKING OUT OR JUST THE T IF OPEN SET. RULES ARE THE SAME FOR THE G IN THE OUT OUT AND EAT. THE SWEEP GOES INSIDE THE T NOT THE G.

5. When you run STRIKE FOLLOW I wrote down MAN blocking. Is that right or would the line still use STRIKE blocking and the HB would lead for the QB? 6. What does HB do on backside of RED LIGHT OUT OUT? 7. Does QB automatically keep ball on midline versus a NOSE? 8. On YELLOW sweep vs. a 50. You said PG cuts DT if he pinches. Is guard on track checking DT first? 9. When do you make WALL call on BELLY and how often do they use it? 10. If you ran BELLY GOB what would the playside G & T be doing? Would the playside back still be leading? 11. What is trap? 12. If you run BELLY GUARD FOLLOW with QB following TB as lead blocker, how does TB know whether to go inside or outside Guard’s block on playside DE? 13. If COrner is playing deep and OLB is outside SE, is OLB 1? 14. Is a standard 50 with an ILB on the Guard, DT on the tackle and DE on air vs. a quick side ( NO TE ) “2 in the hole”? 15. What is “TEDFORD STUFF” passing game Coach Specman mentioned? 16. What kind of patterns do you throw with the TAC call? 17. On the video you mentioned Belly Man and Belly Spec. What bis the difference?

- Anytime X is cracking ( first number not a 1 ) he tightens his split. Most of the time he will take a NASTY split ( 4 yards ). We want the OLB to stay inside him on FLY. If the OLB moves outside him with a NASTY split, he widens his split ( approx 8 yards ) on the next FLY to see if the OLB drops inside. If the OLB still lines up outside him at 8, we should be running inside the OLB from that formation. If a FLY is called with a crack, the X has to line up even wider.

- If the DE is aligned too wide for the Tackle to track around, the Tackle can call “LOAD” if there is a WB to his outside. If he calls “LOAD”, the WB blocks down on the DE and the tackle releases inside on the ILB.

- If there is no WB, the tackle has to try to reach the DE and stay with the DE and turn him out. No “LOAD” call can be made if there is no WB.

THE BLOCKING BACK
- Blocking back has to start sideways. He takes 3 steps sideways on GREEN. - The blocking back needs to attack the outside shoulder of the defender. - The blocking back never runs past any defender crossing his face. The back has to adjust and kick out the defender.

COACHING POINTS
- They like shorter edge ( GT better than GT&TE ). Run YELLOW instead of FLY. FLY can be run to slot/SE. - If DE playing wide, run STOP and kick him out with Tackle staying on him. + They don’t force sweep, rather go to STOP. + GOAL for tackle is stop DT’s feet. + Don’t pull guards because when they don’t pull they limit flow ( no run throughs) and back can cut back. ( Make a hole first, limit flow 2nd ). - FLY with GUARD blocking scheme only used on 3 man side ( side with TE ). - If # 3 outside tackle don’t run sweep. - If DE on air, Run GUARD
