Hello

20

21

The English Ambassadors

In order to provide more opportunities
for students to speak English, we make
Wednesdays our English Day. English
Ambassadors from primary four, five and
six walk around during recess to encourage
students to speak and read English.
Through this activity, English Ambassadors
do not only teach students to speak English
but also demonstrate the way to interact
with others in a courteous manner.

22

Miss Laurie Constantinides is a very enthusiastic English teacher

with 20 years teaching experience in US. She is the coordinator of
HSBC English Teaching Volunteer Programme, who coordinates a
group of expat wives of senior HSBC executives to do storytelling and
interview skill training for the students at our school on Wednesdays.

Miss Laurie
Constantinides
On my first visit to LSK I was very impressed
by the courtesy of the students throughout my tour
of the building. Principal Law and Ms. Ng were
showing me around the school and everywhere
we went, the children greeted us warmly and I felt
most welcome. Even though the children do not
see so many Western people in their school, they
were pleasant and courteous towards me. Once
the HSBC English Teaching program began, all
the HSBC Expat volunteers commented to me
about how respectful and lovely the LSK kids are.
They consistently say please and thank you
and pay attention to the volunteers and to each
other during the oral section of our sessions.

Having been a High School teacher in the U.S.

for twenty years, I guarantee that many American

students could learn a lot from the courtesy

demonstrated by children at LSK. Unfortunately,

many schools in the U.S. have witnessed an

alarming decline among students in terms of

respect; for teachers, parents and also each
other. I believe that courtesy is a vital asset in

the world. I have always taught my students and

my own children that we must treat others as we

would like to be treated ourselves. Based on my
experiences with the children of LSK, they have a
very bright future!! Great job, kids!

FUN

At Lee Shau Kee Primary School we recognize the

importance of a well rounded education. Therefore the
teaching and learning of English plays a very important role
in the school curriculum. Students enjoy learning English
through story telling, drama, poetry, games as well as through
the formal teaching of the language. The students are always
eager to speak, read and write in English. Every Wednesday
has been designated as English Day. All students do their
best to communicate in English both in the classroom and the
play areas of the school. For their efforts they are rewarded
with stamps from our teachers and English Ambassadors.

Students also join special English programs which are

specially arranged for them where they listen to stories and
do picture descriptions and learn communication skills with
Native English Speakers. Our students also take part in
poetry and choral verse competitions where they have done
our school very proud. We make sure we provide an English
rich environment so that the students are always exposed to
the language. The teachers are always striving to help the
students progress by attending workshops and keeping up to
date with new and innovative methods of teaching English.
