Mechanism of Action -A macrolide anti-biotic that is a derivative of erythromycin. Binds to the 50s subunit of bacterial ribosomes blocking protein synthesis. Indications: -Acute bacterial exacerbation of COPD caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moroxella catarrhalis, or Streptococcus pneumoniae; uncomplicated skin and skinstructure infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, or S. agalactiae; second line therapy of pharyngitis or tonsillitis caused by S. pyogenes.

Side Effects: -nausea and vomiting, headache, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, anorexia

-Instruct patient to take medication as prescribed even if he feels better. -Instruct patient that if hypersensitivity occurs during the medication immediately notify the physician.

Mechanism of Action

Also suppresses the immune response, stimulates bone marrow, and influences protein fat and carbohydrate metabolism Indications: -treatment of primary or secondary adrenal cortex in sufficiency, rheumatic disorders, collagen diseases, dermatologic disease, allergic states, allergic and inflammatory ophthalmic processes respiratory disease, hematologic disorders, neoplastic disease, edematous states, multiple sclerosis, tuberculous meningitis, myocardial involvement.

-It is a common side effect of at start of therapy.
