Tyler Clementi is one of the many kids that commit suicide due to internet bullying, also known as cyber

bullying. If that video of him wasn’t posted on Facebook he might still be alive today. Cyber bullying is defined as” use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others. 14 percent of kids report they have received face-to-face bullying, while 48 percent say they have been bullied via virtual message. Cyber-bullying will continue to happen and get worse if we don’t act now. .” The more technology becomes apart of our life, the more cyber bullying increases. The only way to help stop cyber bullying is to make it a federal offence. Cyber-bullying causes stress, frustration, and depression. It also causes many psychological problems and low self-esteem. People with low self-esteem output less productivity. In a society based on productivity, this can be a huge problem. Also, cyber-bullying is widespread and has many consequences. It should be the government’s obligation to enforce a law that covers this. Cyber-bullying has caused many suicides such as the Tyler Clementi incident. The government’s duty is to protect its people from harm. Over the last decade, this form of harm became more and more common. Yet, the government still has not addressed this topic. Cyber-bullying is, and always will be, a major problem to society unless we provide a solution. One kid committing suicide because of cyber bullying is a problem, 100’s of kids committing suicide because of cyber bullying is a crisis. The only way to help fix this crisis is by making cyber bullying a federal offence.
