Coming of age through war: Lance Cpl. Adam Toffling SANGIN DISTRICT, Afghanistan - The notes rip out from taught guitar strings. In time, random and displaced twangs give way to a smooth rhythm, as calloused hands tiptoe across the cords like an acrobat on a tightrope. Lance Cpl. Adam Toffling, a 21-year-old from West Topsham, Vt., stamps his right foot in sync with the emerging beat. (more)
