Staten Island faces unique challenges within its educational system compared to the other five boroughs. Unlike the rest of the city, Staten Island is a close-knit community with small town tendencies, despite being located in the largest metropolis in America. This factor allows our public policy goals in the educational field to be met with different approaches best developed on the local level by stakeholders within the community. The Education Pipeline is a program which will create a 10 year strategic plan to assess and address the problems of our education system, aiming to prevent youths at risk from falling through the cracks within the system itself. Working cohesively, major stakeholders will include Staten Island’s business, civic, faith based, governmental, and non profit organizations, ensuring the island’s youth make a seamless transition from “cradle to career”.
1. Establish a working group of 200 participants from the stakeholders to create a 10 year strategic plan from 20132023 2. Establish a bi-annual conference to evaluate the program’s progress and place amendments within the strategic plan as needed 3. Receive commitments from Staten Island’s elected officials to help cultivate financial and capital support from city and state government agencies 4. Institute a comprehensive outreach to families to help secure participation in the Education Pipeline
5. Establish forums amongst the community for societal input and participation
