• Hundred thousands million stars
make one hundred thousand
million galaxies make one
universe.
• The limitless space around us
consisting of solar system, stars
and galaxies forms the universe.
• Earth and all the planets in our solar
system make up just a tiny part of
the universe. Billions of other stars
like our Sun all form a group called
the Milky Way Galaxy.
• There are at least 100 billion—that’s
100,000,000,000—galaxies in the
universe.
• Many astronomers think the universe
began about 14 billion years ago.
They think it suddenly exploded into
being. They call this bfoeginning the
big bang. All space and time began
with the big bang.

• it was cool enough that tiny bits of

matter called atoms started to rm.
• A galaxy is made up of
millions or billions of
stars. Big clouds of
gas and dust swirl in
space between the
stars.
• Sun is part of a huge
group of stars called a
galaxy. Our galaxy is
called the Milky Way.
The Milky Way is just
one of billions of
galaxies.
• Our solar system,
which includes the
Sun, Earth, and
other planets, is
just a tiny part of
the Milky Way
Galaxy. The Milky
Way contains
about 400 billion
stars.
• The Andromeda
Galaxy, a spiral galaxy
similar to our own
Milky Way Galaxy, is
the farthest object
from Earth visible to
the naked eye.
• The Milky Way and
Andromeda galaxies
are part of a group of
galaxies called the
Local Group, which in
turn is part of larger
group called the Virgo
• The planets of the solar system, outward from
the Sun, which is represented to scale by the
yellow segment at the extreme left, are the four
rocky terrestrial planets—Mercury, Venus,
Earth, and Mars—the four hydrogen-rich giant
planets—Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—
and the icy, comparatively tiny Pluto.
• The Sun is a huge ball
of gases which
generates great heat
& light. The Sun is
actually a small star
among the millions in
our galaxy.
• The sun is mainly
consists of 2 gases ’
HELIUM’ &
HYDROGEN’
• The Sun is so huge a ‘container’ that you
can easily pack 13 lakh Earths into it.
• The Sun’s light looks like pure white, but it
is a mixture of 7 basic colours.
• A little nearer to the Sun, & we will be
burnt, a little farther, we will be frozen.
• Our Sun is a nuclear reactor in which 700
million tons of hydrogen are converted into
helium every second.
• All the planets together receive only 200
millionth of the Sun’s total energy.
• The Sun spins like a giant flaming top at
280 kms /sec.
• Our Sun, too, will die like other stars.
1. Mercury = Messenger of Gods
2. Venus = Goddess of love
3. Mars = God of war
4. Jupiter = King of the Gods
5. Saturn = Father of Jupiter
6. Uranus = God of the heaven
7. Neptune = God of sea
8. Pluto = God of the underworld
• You head for a star wi
th nine planets in one
arm of the Milky Way.
The third planet from
the star is a beautiful
blue, white, and green
ball. This planet looks
like it has life. The
name of this planet is
Earth.
• MOON:- Moon is
the only natural
satellite of earth.
It revolve around
earth in 28 days.
It is mainly
made up of
mountains &
valleys.
• As for as position
is concerned
earth is the third
planet from sun in
our solar system.
It is the only
planet where life
exist in the form
of plants &
animals.
Astronomers want to know what will
happen to the universe. They think it is
still expanding. In fact, the universe seems
to be expanding faster and faster as time
goes on.

 Many astronomers think the universe will

go on expanding forever. If it keeps on
expanding, everything in the universe will
eventually grow cold. Billions of years in
the future even the stars will stop shining.
