You might be surprised to learn that most developers use only a small percentage of the resources
available to them when writing code. In many cases, it’s a problem of not knowing about a particular
environment feature—it really is tough to keep all of those namespaces, classes, methods, events, and
properties in your head. Because most projects today are on very short schedules, the developer has
little reason to look for alternatives. Therefore, many developers continue to use inefficient program-
ming techniques that result in less than optimal code because the technique is familiar—the devel-
oper doesn’t have to do anything special to use a known technique. The following sections provide
a few ideas of where to look for interesting new techniques that you can use to create better applica-
tions without a lot of work.
