Problem Scenario: A yacht race follows a triangular course. The course from Buoy P to Buoy Q is 1.8 km on a true bearing of 058°. At Buoy Q the course changes direction. The course from Buoy Q to Buoy R is 2.7 km and PQR = 74°. The race coordinators want to rope the course off so no one enters the 'no go' zone, which is within the triangle. The captain in charge of the boat roping the course off, has to calculate what direction he is to travel after each buoy and how much rope he will need. The water authorities charge $40 per square metre the race ropes off. How much will this cost the race organisers?
