1.0 Rock and rap music

1.1 Definitions

1.1.1 Rock is a form of popular music with a prominent vocal melody

accompanied by electric guitars, a bass guitar, drums, sometimes

keyboard instruments such as organ, piano or synthesizers and

has a strong back beat.

1.1.2 Rap music or hip hop is a style of music, developed by disc

jockeys and urban blacks and it consists of rhythmic lyrics

accompanied by an instrumental track, referred to as a ‘beat’.

1.2 Origins

1.2.1 Rock music has its roots in the 1950s and later developed into a

number of subgenres.

1.2.2 Rap music or hip hop came into existence in the 1970s and

became a huge part of modern pop culture in the 1980s.

2.0 Evidence that rock and rap music influence youths

2.1 Youths become emotionally disturbed.

4.1 Some people say that rock and rap music tend to brain wash youths and

4.2 Some people disagree and feel that music of these genres is a form of

relaxation and that more youths are influenced in positive ways.
