FATHER

Let me take your hand,
And teach you my kid.
How to walk this sand,
And sail ‘er arid.

Take my gaze and you will see,
What I see for you.
As to what you will be,
Captain leading the crew.

As every father I cherish a dream,
My son the ruler standing on me.
Who once stood besides for ice cream,
Now too tall to see.

How I ‘d marvel some day,
When you ‘ll make my name.
I could sleep and won’t stray,
In peace reassured and tame.

Lying on my pyre with a smiling gaze,
You’d put me to light.
My name staying on no one to eraze,
Heavens I’d meet tranquil and bright.

Take this hand,
And learn my kid.
You’ll one day walk the sand,
And sail ’er arid.
