Squib. The Supreme Court struck down a fed-
eral statute creating a cause of action for wo-
men who had been victimized by gender-based
violence. The Court held that the Fourteenth
Amendment applied only to state action. Since
gender-based violence was not the result of
state action, Congress had no authority to pass
the law.
