Old Testament 1 Syllabus Introduction Welcome to the scriptures.

You studied hermeneutics before getting into the scriptures to help you be critical in a positive way of writers. There are different interpretations of difficult passages by different scholars and non-scholars. When you wonder, see if you can follow a writers hermeneutics to help you be critical of their interpretation of a passage. Paul tells Timothy the young pastor to Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2Ti 2:15 KJV). That word dividing means to make a straight cut. Biblical work is an iterative process (goes around in circles, getting closer and closer to the truth). Without knowledge of the scriptures, there is no theology. With sound theology, there is help to understanding the scriptures. It is of critical importance as a pastor, or Christian leader that you are familiar with all the scriptures because all doctrine comes from a straight cut of every part of the Bible. This course should be quite enjoyable and edifying to you as you read and see Gods work from The beginning. Purpose: 1. To give the student the familiarity with the first 5 books of the Bible 2. To enable the student to interpret theological principals from the first 5 books of the Bible 3. You are required to respond online to each question by Wednesday and then by Friday read all responses and then thoughtfully reflect to at least one (more then one is good!) other persons posting. These answers and responses should be substantial, meaning they require more then a single paragraph that expresses some thought concerning the question. It would also be beneficial to reflect on someones answer that has not had someone else respond to their thoughts.
