3157 Bedford Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11229 January 3rd 2005 Representative Anthony Weiner House Office Building Washington

, D.C. 20515 Dear Mr. Weiner: I am writing to you to show my support for H. R. 2041, which would provide grants to States for enacting statewide laws regulating public playgrounds consistent with playground safety guidelines established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Since safety is always an important issue, it is critical that this bill be passed so parents feel safe to bring their children to public parks. I live in a two family house in Sheepshead Bay and like any other neighborhood in New York City; there is a limited amount of space in our yards to play in. Many parents bring their kids to public playgrounds thinking that it is perfectly safe but its not. The Consumer Product Safety Commission established guidelines so it would be safe for children to play there. If the states receive a grant to follow the guidelines, they will fix their playgrounds to follow the guidelines laid out for them. Two of the most frequent accidents that occur in playgrounds have already been identified. With new equipment, states will be able to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for children to develop their muscles and interact with their surroundings. I understand that giving the states a grant worth that much money on public playgrounds that can be used for other things is really hard to do, but these children is also the future of our society. We want them to grow up perfectly healthy and strong. Vote “Yes” on H. R. 2041. Sincerely, Rickey Mei
