Guest Speakers
December: Marc Bonny on his Titirangi Fringe of Heaven book February 2012: Aline Gee Sandra Coney gave us an interesting and detailed talk on her years of research into the story of the Piha Mill, a war memorial there, and the names and stories behind the memorial. Of interest to Avondale, is the link with the Ingram family, who were among the members of the Avondale Presbyterian parish, and who are buried in the cemetery here.

Whau Local Board
I appeared before the Whau Local Board at their regular meeting in New Lynn on Tuesday 13 September, regarding the old Avondale Toilets on Rosebank Road. At the time of writing, I’m awaiting news of a report by Council staff on the building’s fate. Also, from August: 1.The missing community noticeboard/heritage sign at the Town Centre (by Dale the Spider) has been restored. 2.The renaming of New Windsor Reserve to Arthur Currey Reserve (still not done, although approved September last year) — still pending. 3. The renaming of Avondale South Domain to Gittos Domain, Blockhouse Bay. AWHS wrote in support of this back in 2004. Still pending. The Board’s SLIPs project for a sign beside the grave of Rev. David Hamilton at St Ninians Cemetery, preserving the words from the obelisk, is underway. The design I’ve sighted should look great beside the grave. My thanks to the Whau Local Board for seeing this through with us.
