DOMESTIC REFRIGERATOR 1. The primary function of the refrigerator is to provide the food storage space maintained at low temperature for the preservation of the food. 2. Its essential secondary function is the formation of the ice cube for domestic consumption. 3. They are usually specified by the internal gross volumes and the deep freezer volume. A storage temperature of 00C to 40C is satisfactory for the preservation of the foods 4. The mechanical vapour compression cycle is used for the domestic refrigerator due to its compactness and more efficient use of electrical energy. 5. The refrigerant used generally is R-12 and R-22.
6. The compressor is mounted at the bottom of the refrigerant frame. 7. The power of the compressor may vary according to the size of the refrigerator. 8. The condenser is put back about 40- 60 mm away form the cabinet. 9. The capillary tube is kept in contact with the evaporator inlet pipe. A drier is connected between the receiver and the evaporator to eliminate the traces of the moisture if any. 10. The evaporator coil is wrapped around the freezer in a suitable manner to give sufficient heat transfer.
The thermostatic sensing element is provide to the evaporator coil which can control the temperature in the freezer up to -150c insteps or continuously. 12. The refrigerator body is provided with a good quality of insulation in order to prevent the heat transfer into the system. 13. Usually 60 to 100 mm thick glass lose fill fiber or glass rolls or thermacole is used since the conductivity of these insulating material are quite low.
