Farner 10/10/2011 The Importance of Telling the Truth

The question, “What is the importance of truth telling in writing and in life?” is a very good question, and one that deserves an answer. In this part of my assignment I will do my best to answer this question. I will make my answer as clear and concise as possible. Truth does not always come easy. Most people think they have to lie or stretch the truth for fear that people will not like them just the way they are. Lying not only causes mistrust it also causes hurt feelings. When you lie to someone you are essentially saying that you don’t care enough for that person to be real with them. When you get the reputation as a liar people do not want to listen to you anymore because that trust has been broken, and trust is hard to get back. People may forgive you but that doesn’t mean they are going to allow it to happen again.

I believe that is why God made it so clear in his Holy Bible, The ninth commandment, “Thou shalt not lie.” You see truth was so important to God that he wrote this commandment to not lie on a stone tablet when he was with Moses on Mount Sinai. Truth is so important to God that one of his commandments tells us not to lie, and the bible shows us how to live life and be in right standing with God. It is important to take note that the bible is also referred to as “The book of Truth” Daniel 10:21

” Psalms 15:1-3. Telling the truth will get you respect and a good honest reputation. If you lie and write things down that are untruthful you will soon be found out. Truth has rewards. Under God's inspiration. . You can not get away with telling lies. The following is an excerpt from a website I came across about the Ten Commandments. who does his neighbour no wrong and casts no slur on his fellow-man … [and] who keeps his oath even when it hurts. God expects truth to permeate every facet of our lives. who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue. and mess up your entire life. Someone is bound to catch on.” Did you ever notice that when you go into a court room that the judge to whom you are being sworn in by says “Do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth?” You of course say yes you will. “As the source of truth. “When the story stolen is your own” Nasdijj. God requires that His servants always speak truthfully. This is an oath that you are making before the courts that everything you say on that stand is the truth. “Lord. An important fact here to note is that this man got caught in his lies. A good example of this is the story that we just read about. who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous. “Your lies will find you out!” Lying has consequences. give you a bad reputation. the author of “The Blood Runs like a River through My Dreams” He was found out to be a literary thief and a liar. The truth was far from his lying lips. However. Truth telling is important in all facets of life. Lying can cause people to lose respect for you. King David writes.

I am most certain he was not prepared for publishers to drop him. How do you think she felt about this man that misrepresented himself? I am sure it caused hard feelings. and cause people to be angry with you. but LA weekly called him a fraud and exposed his real identity as a white writer. . In conclusion. and publically called him out. Not only was he called out by Oprah Winfrey. The truth is always going to be the better choice. namely Oprah Winfrey had to make a public apology. it is important to always be truthful and never tell lies. This mans reputation will forever be stained because of his decision to write lies. The truth may hurt at times but it is a much better choice in the long run. One of the consequences of not telling the truth can cause public humiliation. Timothy Barrus was believed to be the actual name of this author that lied. You will see that telling lies will dig you right into a deep pit. How did she recover from this misrepresentation of the truth? She called him up and asked him to be on the show. These things I mentioned are consequences of not telling the truth. Those that backed him up. I am certain that Timothy was not expecting all of this negative attention. so deep you may not be able to climb back out.
