District 9 Review

By L Stewart

An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly finds a kindred spirit in a government agent who is exposed to their biotechnology. - Imdb

District 9 2011 directed by Neill BlomKamp is one of those movies which uses the premise One foot in the future one foot in the past by this I mean Blomkamp uses a plot taken straight from historical events more so around the early 1900 when segregation between races were acceptable. They use symbolic examples of that kind of segregation by signs paraded around town which say For humans only which closely resemble the No coloured Allowed signs commonly seen around America. District 9, instead of just having white people be the aggressors of the different race the entire human race assumes the position and the prawns assume the position of the Black/coloured. Like many other post modern movies there are inside jokes that only people that learned the history of the early 1900/ Americas history. Otherwise people who see this for the first time will not know what its in relation to. In summation I give this movie
