How to Play Settlers of Catan Goal of Game: reach 10+ victory points  Victory points= points accumulated from settlements

/cities/development cards o Keep track of your own, when you reach 10, tell everyone. General:  Order: Start clockwise, then counter-clockwise, then clockwise again  Round 1: o Highest Dice roll goes first.  Build settlement anywhere (start with 1 settlement and 1 road)one per player  Round 2: o Place new settlement/road anywhere else and collect resources from hexes touching your settlement.      Set-up: A, B, C, D, etc. clockwise, should spiral in. Can only build on your turn after you roll the dice. Building stuff: settlement-road-road-settlement. Must have at least 2 roads in between. Must be 2 intersections away from someone else’s Each turn: o Must roll o May trade (must negotiate, other players can counter proposals or say no) o May build/buy development cards Pass dice on when done

Dice: 

Number rolled = the resources you get to take from that particular number’s hex if you have stuff adjacent to the particular hex o Ex. Roll a ’10,’ anyone with settlements/cities adjacent to any ‘10’ hex gets resources (settlement=1resource; city=2resource) o If not enough resources for everyone to get what they need, no one gets resources  Rolling a 7: anyone with more than 7 cards needs to get rid of a selected half of resource cards (rounded down); robber must be removed to a new position. Resource Cards:  Like monopoly money o Start off with amount of resources your settlements are on Ports:  Option of trading with the bank instead of other players. o Ex. If you’re connected to an ore port, if you want another thing, you can trade 2 ores for the other thing from the bank. Development Cards:  Shuffle  BOUGHT  Not meant to be shown publicly unless you’re playing them  Can only be played when it’s your turn o Only played per turn o Can be played even before dice is rolled  Exception, if you buy a card and it’s Victory Point card and it gets you to 10 points, play it right away. Special Victory Points:  Largest Army: at least 3 soldier cards, after that, most soldiers  Longest Road: @ least 5 uninterrupted roads+ Robber:  Can only be on places with settlements  Once moved, cannot return to desert. Winning:  Can only win during your turn
