(Research, Analysis, Advocacy Group - furthering on the discussions at ‘praja.in’) C-103, Mantri Classic, 4th block, Koramangala, Bangalore 560034 20th Oct, ’11 Sri D V Sadanda Gowda, Honourable Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka, Vidhan Soudha, Bangalore 560001
Sir sub: Rs 1200 cr per annum LPG loot The reversal by you, of the order issued by your Civil Supplies Minister, Smt Shobha Karandlaje, terminating close to 25 lakh obviously bogus gas connections, is indeed a sad augury. The order was the culmination of a fairly thorough and foolproof exercise initiated by Sri Harish Gowda, IAS, Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Dept, known widely to be a sincere and honest officer, through the linking up of LPG connections with Electricity meter numbers. If there was some truth to this so called "public outcry" against the order, reported in the press, one would have seen some bit of it on the net too. But, hardly any one has raised the matter as yet over the very many e-groups that many of us are part of. Neither has the matter come up at RWA meets. As such, very clearly, it's only those who have illegal connections, and their patrons in the government, that have an issue with the disconnection drive, ordered in all sincerity by Smt Shobha Karandlaje, to save the exchequer of a whopping Rs 1200 cr per annum. The stance of the ministers opposing the cleansing act that "Shobha should not be unduly concerned about the ‘bogus connections’ as it was the Centre which was supplying the subsidised cylinders", reported in the press, clearly gives their game away. Whether borne by the centre or the state, it is ultimately the tax payer who is shouldering the burden. And, it is these kinds of loots that are leading to the sky-rocketing inflation that we are facing all along. So, it is in everyone's interest to put a stop to the goings on. Sir, your government has still to gain credibility with the public after all the shenanigans under the previous chief minister, which eventually landed him up where he belongs. And, such happenings immediately thereafter, doesn't help to improve the image, any.
We request you to review your decision forthwith, and reinstate the order issued by the Civil Supplies Minister. Thanking you, Yours truly, for PRAJA-RAAG, sd/Muralidhar Rao (President)
