Bedford Baptist Church

Proposed Membership Amendment

At Bedford Baptist, those who are currently members have been baptized by immersion upon profession of faith in Christ. If they were baptized in another Baptist church, they entered our fellowship by a transfer of membership. The proposed amendment to our constitution would see our membership also include those who profess (and exhibit) their faith in Christ, but who have been baptized by water in a form other than immersion. When we consider people for membership, we would like our priority to be on how Christ is reflected in their lives and not on the method by which they were baptized. If the amendment is adopted, in the future a person seeking membership at Bedford Baptist will have: completed an orientation. experienced a form of water baptism. met with the deacons to share his/her faith experience and his/her desire to become a church member. been recommended for membership by a meeting of the deacons.

Proposed Membership Amendment (Contd.)

had the Church Executive approve the deacons recommendation. been welcomed into membership at a church service.

This amendment will welcome into membership those who share our commitment to Christ as Saviour and Lord but have been baptized in a mode other than immersion. It does
not change our core belief that immersion in water is the scriptural form of baptism. The membership amendment to be voted on Saturday December 3, 2011 would read as follows: The membership of this Church shall consist of persons: who profess faith in Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour of their lives, who give evidence of a new life (regeneration) by following Christs example, who have been baptized with water in obedience to Christs command, who have been received into the membership of this Church by its members. If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
