Although the headline ranking figures show several changes in the survey this year, what is equally
significant is the pattern of clustering among the schools. Some 205 points separate the top school
from the school ranked 100. The top 17 schools, from Wharton to Kellogg, form the premier league
of world class business schools. The second group is headed by the Schulich business school at York
University in eighteenth position, and includes both the Smeal school at Pennsylvania State

includes schools ranked from 44 to 100. Some 78 points separate these 57 schools. However, there
are very few points separating schools within this group.
Also within this third group, there are 11 schools which were not in the MBA 2005 top 100 listings.
Of these, five have appeared in the table for the first time.
