SEMINAR REPORT ON HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE USING FUMED SILICA

GUIDED BY Mrs. S. USHA Asst Professor Dept. of Civil Engineering

PRESENTED BY APARNA G KRISHNA S7 CIVIL ROLL NO. 11

INTRODUCTION

High performance concrete is a concrete having low water binder ratio. A value of 0.4 is suggested as boundary between usual concrete and high performance concrete. It has high strength and durability. For high durability low permeability is required and to reduce permeability silica fume is used

DEFENITION
It should have maximum water cement ratio of 0.4, a maximum durability of 80% and a minimum compressive strength of 69Mpa at 28 days.

DURABILITY OF HPC
From durability point of view, it is important to achieve low permeability as quick as possible.

FUMED SILICA
SiCl4+2 H2O
SiO2 + 4HCl

MECHANISM OF HPC

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
Materials Cement
Water Coarse aggregate HRWRA

DESIGN MIX
Ratio of Cement fine and Coarse aggregate = 1: 1.35:1.68 W/(C+P) ratio = 0.31 Slump = 25 to 50mm

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

Age 3 day 7 day 28 day

Average compressive strength (Mpa) 24 40 63

CONCLUSION
Mineral admixture such as fumed silica is an ideal constituent' for high performance concrete as it has the inherent ability to contribute to continued strength development through their pozzolanic / cementations reactivity and to enhance durability and chemical resistance through their pore refinement and reduced sorptivity characteristics.
