Students who have failed an examination on a previous occasion are likely to be more
apprehensive and anxious before a resit because they do not wish to go through another
humiliating experience. The danger here is that students may be subconsciously condi-
tioning themselves to feeling anxious for all examinations. It is important not to allow such
behaviour patterns to develop into permanent ones, thus becoming part of a person’s per-
sonal baggage.
