LESSON 28: METHOD AND TIME STUDY

Objectives: Explain mechanization and automation relative to general- and special-purpose machines Examine the basic components of sewing machines and work aids

METHOD ANALYSIS A method describes how an operation should be performed by identifying the equipment to be used, arrangement of the workplace, position of the worker and the motion sequence to be performed in completing the procedure. Each operation is broken down into elements or sequences of motions that are required to execute the program. It determines the most effective means of executing each operation. Tedious/Time Consuming/ requires knowledgeable and skilled observer No one factor can be studied separately Following has to be achieved while establishing methods: 1.) Reduction of required motions 2.) Short Motions 3.) Simple motions The above decrease the requirements of time and energy. Motions can be eliminated / reduced by using work aid and/or changing the method/arrangement of workplace. Methods may be changed or new methods developed to 1) Increase efficiency 2) Reduce fatigue and stress on body parts 3) Utilize new work aids and equipment 4) Improve quality 5) Reduce the training time required for a specific operation
