The Rundown

December 2011

A message from the President…..

Again that time of year is here… When wreaths & elves & lights appear… The hue of Santa's suit & sleigh… Adding color to the skies of gray… Until pansies, roses, tulips grow… Melting all of the Season's snow… I like holly, gifts & Advent more… Than all that springtime holds in store… For it's this I'll tell you I so adore… Again that time of year is here… When wreaths & elves & lights appear.. Soon enough we will be throwing out that first pitch! But for now, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous 2012!
Thank you, Joe Marrotta President HHYBS jmarrotta@hhyb.org

Southwest Interleague expands baseball & softball program.
Across the Southland, a joint effort is looking to make youth baseball & softball accessible, affordable & fun again.
Story by Karyn Marrotta, Editor of the Rundown.

Hickory Hills, IL, 12/12/11 –The Southwest Interleague has joined forces with 6 surrounding communities to establish a 10 city baseball league. The league will offer teams for players from 4 - 16 years of age. The merger is designed to increase the level of competition and expand game schedules while keeping the costs of youth baseball manageable in these tough economic times. Each individual organization will register players from within or close to their communities. Once the teams are selected, the total numbers will be submitted to the league schedule maker. The number of games will differ depending on age level. Younger players will compete in a modest schedule with very little travel, whereas the older levels could see up to 40 games or more and travel around the Chicago land area. “This is a way to maintain our organizations so our families don’t have to spend a large sum of money to be part of a travel team. We have heard that families are tired of no competition and tired of playing the same three towns. This is the solution. We now have all that these travel teams have to offer right here without spending thousands of dollars!” said Joe Marrotta, President of Hickory Hills Youth Baseball / Softball as well as the one of the organizer’s of said Inter League. This sentiment was a common thread among the other organization’s leaders. Jim Gutierrez, vice-president for Orland Hills Youth Association explains, “This is an affordable alternate part-time travel league which will meet the communities’ baseball and softball needs at a reasonable cost.” Towns included in this new Inter League are Hickory Hills, Worth, Bedford Park, Bridgeview, Orland Hills, Crestwood, Blue Island, Hometown, Country Club Hills, and Oak Forest. The Southwest Interleague will open the 2012 season in mid-April and run through the end of June. Each age group will have a playoff schedule established once the regular season is completed, which each community will vie for the title of “Southwest Interleague Champion.”

Dear Friend:

In the past your business has been a proud sponsor of Hickory Hills Youth Baseball/Softball and for the upcoming season, we are looking for your generosity once again.
With today’s economy we are seeing more of our families struggling. The economic problem is trickling down and we have many children who can’t afford to play. In order to keep our children interested in the sport and also to keep them involved in an organized activity, we are asking for your help. We do not receive outside funding from any park districts, cities, counties or state entities. We are fully funded by registration fees, fundraising activities, and generous donations from businesses like you. We are a non for profit organization so all donations are tax deductible. HHYBS will never turn a child away whose family can’t afford the fees. This is why we have come to you for support. Attached is a sponsorship sheet that outlines our 8 different levels of sponsorship. Youth Baseball programs impact the lives and development of many children in our communities, and this year especially we want to make sure our children have the opportunity again to play. Your donation will help compensate children’s registration fees, buy new equipment, and assist with day to day upkeep of our fields. Please look over the attached sponsorships, and know that your donation will be greatly appreciated by many players in the present as well as the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at anytime by calling (708) 277-4562 or by email at jmarrotta@HHYB.Org. Thank you for your support,

Joe Marrotta
