The Story Of Captain Blythe. There was a movie that told the story of Captain Blythe..

he was a strict English Naval Officer of a sailing vessel in the late eighteen hundreds. Now at this time the Officers of the day were given a lot of power over the laymen on the ship, often subjecting them to Whipping if they did not obey orders or made mistakes. In other words the laymen Were considered to be and were treated less than men. Now on the ship of captain Blythe there was an officer in training whom we will call Jeremiah Jacobs. Now Jacobs found favour with most of the men under him and would Stand up for them, defending them against beatings and unfair treatment by captain Blythe. This of course did not go down well with the captain and senior officers and Jacobs was instructed to straighten himself out, i.e. get tough or lose his chance of being promoted up the ranks. But things got tough on captains Blythes ship. The men were getting restive over the Unfair treatment, but captain Blythe made it worst ordering them to work with small Rations of food and constant beatings. But Jacobs stood up and defended the men so Much so that he arranged a coup and sent Captain Blyhte and the senior officers packing By ordering them into a smaller boat with oars, so they would have to row their way back to sure. It was when captain Blyhte returned to England that he ordered Jeremiah Jacobs to be court marshaled in Jacobs absence and that a sentence of treason should be handed Down on Jacobs for the coup he organized . However in the court of England at this time In that nations history a funny thing happened. The lawyers who were set to defend Jacobs in his absence and for the purpose of upholding the law, and other men like him who would do what he did, these lawyers, won the case in favour of Jacobs. The ruling that the court handed down was that it was wrong to treat men less than humans because they were not of a certain rank, as the captains of the day often did, and that the spirit of the law was not being upheld by captain Blyhtes decision to court marshal Jacobs. The ruling of the court further stated that these laymen were not less than men because they were of a lower rank and that Jacobs acted justly in defending these men from the unfair treatment of the senior officers. Now there may be no truth to this but it is said in the war in America against English rule it is said that the English decided to relinquish their power over the natives of that land in the light of the story of captain Blyhte arguing that it was unjust to oppress others because they were of a lower rank or status or pedigree in life. It is also said that this is why in the court of law in America someone is considered Innocent until proven guiltywhile in the English court they are considered guilty until proven innocent..and that this is the hand.. the story of captain Blyhte. that the English had in the forming of America and its constitution of civil liberty.
