HADITH

Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al Uthaymeen ( )said concerning the hadith: The author2 mentioned the hadith of Abi Saed Al Khudri

that Jibril ( )came to the Prophet (?) asking him:

Are you suffering? Meaning, Are you ill or sick? The Prophet (?) said: Yes, then Jibril ( )replied:

.
By Allahs Names I am using ruqiya (i.e. invocations by way of mentioning Allahs Names or verses from the Quran for the purpose of healing) upon you, from everything that may harm you, and from every evil person or envious eye, O may Allah heal you, By Allahs Names I am using ruqiya.

HADITH

This is the supplication of Jibril ( )to the Prophet (?), Jibril ( )said to him:

Are you suffering? The Prophet (?) replied with an affirmative, in that questioning and answer is an indication to that there is no problem for the sick to say to the people: Im sick, when he is being asked. This is not the from Complaining, for complaining is that you complain about the Creator (Allah) to the creation, you would say for example: Allah caused me to become sick with this & that, you have complained concerning the Lord to the creation, this is not permissible, that is the reason Yaqub ( )said:

He said: I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allah3 Rather when the person who is sick relates to others of his sickness by way of notification, nor is this complaining, thus there is no problem in doing so. This is why some of the general people say: Notifying is not complaining, this is good.

Yusuf 12:86

HADITH

In this also there a proof denoting the suitability of reading over the sick with this supplication:

By Allahs Names I am using ruqiya Meaning, I am reading over you.

from everything that may harm you From all illnesses, worries, grieves, or distress and so forth.

and from every evil person From humans, jinn, or other than that, or:

envious eye Meaning, what the people call the evil eye, and that he is also the envier, and refuge is sought in Allah from that, hasad means having hatred for what Allah has bestowed upon the servant, this is a wicked individual. This evil person rushes to cause calamity to befall on the person that he has envy towards.

HADITH

Because of that Allah says:

nmlkj
And from the evil of the envier when he envies.4 And what happens is the person who is envied becomes full of sorrow and grief due to the evil eye. For that reason Jibril said:

or envious eye, O may Allah heal you That is, free him & remove from him his sickness.

By Allahs Names I am using ruqiya He began with the basmalah (i.e. in Allahs names) at the beginning and the ending of the supplication. So when a person is faced with this type of situation (i.e. illness, sickness, the evil eye etc.) he should say this supplication over someone else, because it is better for him.

Falaq 113:5 5

HADITH

That is because anything that is of the Sunnah it more virtuous as a means of protection, suppose you dont know the supplication, then say what is easier for you, like shafakallah (i.e. may Allah heal you), or afakallah (i.e. may Allah grant you well being), or saying I ask Allah that He heals you or grants you well being, or similar to that. In this hadith is a proof that the Prophet(?) like others is human, and he was affected by sickness, in this hadith as well is an evidence that reading or reciting over the sick does not nullify ones complete trust in Allah (i.e. Tawakul). On the other hand seeking from other people to read over, within that is a deficiency of Tawakul , that is because he asked the creation, and he relying on their questioning him, Yet when a person comes to him & reads over him while not refusing, there is nothing wrong in that nor makes his Tawakul diminished any. Because of this the Prophet (?) read over others, and was read over himself, therefore this does not diminish a persons complete Tawakul whereas he is asked concerning his health by someone else, and Allah is the one who grants success.
