Highland Park Girls Lacrosse Player and Parent Code of Conduct

Being a member of the Highland Park Girls Lacrosse Program (HPGL) is a choice of the player and thereby considered a privilege, not a right. No student is required to take part in this activity. Therefore, it is imperative that all the students taking part in this Program and their parents understand the following responsibilities and rules and acknowledge that the Board of the Highland Park Girls Lacrosse Program and its coaches shall have every right to remove this privilege for improper behavior. 1. The HPGL athletes will: • • • • • • Not argue or protest a play or call made by an official Not commit un-sportsmanlike behavior during a practice or game Not use inappropriate language in practice or games Not consume alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs Not engage in behavior that is deemed to be detrimental to the team (such determination shall be the sole discretion of the coach with Board approval) Not participate in nor attend any Powder Puff event or similar event and will notify team and level coordinators of said events if they impact our Program in any manner.

2. The HPGL athletes will: • • • • • Take a positive attitude toward coaches, teammates, and opponents at practices and games Understand that winning and losing are part of the game and must conduct themselves as good losers as will as gracious winners Conduct themselves at all practices and games in a manner that reflects the standards of HPGL Conduct themselves off the field in a manner that reflects the standards of HPGL. YOU are responsible for your actions at ALL times Athletes and parents are expected to be truthful at all times. HPGL athletes should give coaches their undivided attention when communicating either individually or in a group. Coaches, parents, volunteers, officials and adults both deserve and are worthy of your polite respect.

3. The HPGL athlete will be on time for all practices, meetings, and games. Unexcused tardiness may result in disciplinary action. Any absence must be reported to the coach before the game or practice, with as much advanced notice as is possible. DO NOT make appointments during practice or game times. Repeated absences or tardiness may result in suspension from the team or dismissal. Players who are contagious should remain at home and notify the coach. Injured players should attend practices and games unless otherwise excused. (Long term illness or injury is excluded.) 4. Violations of the above: • • • • • • Any HPGL athlete who consumes illegal drugs may be immediately dismissed from the Program. Any HPGL athlete who consumes alcohol faces possible immediate suspension or dismissal from the Program as determined by the coaches and Board of Directors. Any HPGL athlete who uses any form of tobacco faces possible immediate suspension or dismissal from the Program as determined by the coaches and Board of Directors. Any HPGL athlete who uses profanity or un-sportsmanlike conduct faces disciplinary action. Any HPGL player who participates in or attends events which are deemed detrimental to the program faces immediate dismissal from the Program as determined by the coaches and the Board of Directors. Any HPGL player who attends the Alternative School at the high school faces immediate suspension or dismissal from the Program as determined by the coaches and the Board of Directors.

5. If a player is dismissed, she must have coach and Board approval for re-instatement the following year. 6. The Highland Park ISD Code of Conduct will be in effect for all HPGL athletes. 7. High School players and their parents will be required to sign and adhere to the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) Code of Conduct.

8. Youth players and their parents will be required to sign and adhere to the North Texas Youth Lacrosse Association (NTYLA) Code of Conduct. 9. HPGL parents will not argue or protest a play or call by an official. They shall not criticize any player, coach or official at practices or games. Further, they are expected to maintain the same levels of sportsmanship as the athletes. A parent can be asked to leave the game by the coach or team coordinator(s) and must do so immediately. A parent can be ejected from the game by the game official. A parent can cause their child’s team to forfeit the game based on the parent’s behavior. Should a parent’s behavior cause a game forfeiture or if a parent is asked to leave by the coach, team coordinator, or official at a game, the parent is jeopardizing his/her attendance at future games. Our Program follows the guidelines of the Positive Coaching Alliance. 10. If an HPGL parent has a concern, he/she will talk calmly and rationally to the team coordinator. If the parent does not feel their concerns were addressed, they will take the issue to the level coordinators. If the parent is still not satisfied after following the above steps, they may take their issue to the President of HPGL and she/he will bring it to the attention of the full Board. 11. HPGL parents will not serve nor consume alcoholic beverages at any team event including team dinners in homes or at tournaments when players are present. 12. Any HPGL parent or player (or agent on their behalf) who threatens to initiate, or initiates any type of legal action against a coach, board member, other player or player’s family for any reason relating directly or indirectly to HPGL subjects the player (or their child) to immediate suspension and/or dismissal from the program/team. 13. We have read and fully understand and endorse the HPGL Mission Statement. Both parents are required to sign below unless the player is in the sole custody of one parent/guardian.
