ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable.

Intelligence
Intelligence is the computational part of the ability to achieve goals in the world. Varying kinds and degrees of intelligence occur in people, many animals and some machines.

Major Branches of Artificial Intelligence

VISION SYSTEMS ROBOTICS

LEARNING SYSTEMS

NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING

NEURAL NETWORKS

Usages
AI has been used in a wide range of fields including medical diagnosis, IT, game, music, finance . "A lot of cutting edge AI has filtered into general applications, often without being called AI because once something becomes useful enough and common enough it's not labeled AI anymore."

Medicine
A medical clinic can use AI systems to organize bed schedules, make a staff rotation, and provide medical information.

Artificial neural networks are used for medical diagnosis (such as in Concept Processing technology in EMR software), functioning as machine differential diagnosis.

One can buy machines that can play master level chess for a few hundred dollars. There is some AI in them. To beat a world champion by brute force and known reliable heuristics requires being able to look at 200 million positions per second.

Several music software applications have been developed that use AI to produce music. A few examples as follows:
SmartMusic StarPlayIt ChucK

The Rover was a remote-controlled robot used by NASA to explore the surface of Mars.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Many telecommunications companies make use of heuristic search in the management of their workforces, for example BT Group has deployed heuristic search in a scheduling application that provides the work schedules of 20000 engineers.
