WHAT IS 3 – POINT CONTACT?
Three-point contact is when both your feet and one hand are in contact with the stairs and the handrail.
WHY SHOULD YOU KEEP ONE HAND FREE WHEN WALKING UP AND DOWN STAIRS?
For your own safety it is very important to apply a 3-point contact when climbing or walking up and down stairs. Carrying objects (tools or materials) with both hands or not holding onto a handrail whilst climbing up or down the stairs is an unsafe act and most of us are guilty. It is easy to loose balance and fall when ascending or descending the stairs. This can result in you hurting your back and /or legs and suffer a Loss Time Injury
WHAT CAN YOU DO
Make sure to practice the 3-point contact when ascending or descending the stairs (even at the shopping malls & home) and see if won’t reduce or even avoid the accidents. Encourage your co-workers, friends, spouse and children to do the 3-point contact to avoid accidents.
