SOPA/PIPA
Here at the Drupal Association we have a rule to not engage in political discussion. We want the focus to be on our project, our community, and your work. Sadly, there is a piece of legislation that we can not ignore. If you have not heard, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are two pieces of proposed U.S. legislation that will dramatically alter the U.S. laws governing the Internet. The effect of these laws would stifle your work and make it more difficult for you to operate on the Internet while also making you potentially liable for linking to or hosting user generated content. You can not afford to ignore this piece of legislation. Fortunately due to a groundswell of outrage from the Internet community (i.e. you) these proposed bills are currently stalled. However, the fight is not over.

Hopefully this will be the only piece of political news that we have to write about. Thank you for all of your contributions to the Drupal project, to building a free and open Internet, and for pushing Open Source forward. It is your work and contributions that have built this amazing free and open thing called the Internet, we can't let a few misinformed U.S. lawmakers threaten what we built. Innovation over legislation. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at an upcoming DrupalCamp and at DrupalCon in Denver. -Jacob Redding
