DRUG STUDY RIFAMPICIN Brand name: Lyvifam Classification: Anti-tuberculosis Action: Inhibits DNA dependent polymerase, decreases replication

Indication: treatment of Tuberculosis Dosage: 5.5 ml Contraindication: Jaundice associated with reduced bilirubin excretion. Adverse reaction: GI disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia Nursing consideration:        Administer with meals to decrease GI disturbances Better to take on empty stomach 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals Do not take any new medication without consulting the doctor Take the medication to complete full course and do not skip doses Inform the patient that this medication will discolor urine, stool, saliva, sweat, tears and other body fluids a red-brown color. Stains on clothing are permanent Report persisting vomiting or diarrhea

ISONIAZID Brand name: Isonid Classification: Anti-tuberculosis Action: Inhibits RNA synthesis, decreases tubercle bailli replication Indication: treatment of Tuberculosis Dosage: 2.8 ml Contraindication: should not be given to patient with drug induced liver diseases Adverse reaction: fever, hypersensitivity, nausea, vomiting, GI disturbances, liver dysfunction, peripheral neuropathy Nursing consideration:       Administer with meals to decrease GI disturbances Better to take on empty stomach 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals Give anti emetic for vomiting Take the medication to complete full course and do not skip doses Caution patient in alcohol while in therapy may increase risk of liver damage Tell patient to report peripheral neuritis

PYRAZINAMIDE Brand name: Pyzather Classification: Anti-tuberculosis Action: Mechanism unknown, highly specific and bactericidal for Mycobacterium Tubercolosis Indication: treatment of Tuberculosis in selected children Dosage: 11 ml Contraindication: Acute gout, acute liver disease Adverse reaction: Anorexia, nausea, vomiting, thrombocytopenia Nursing consideration:      Administer with meals to decrease GI disturbances Give anti emetic for vomiting May be given with anti tubercular drugs Take the medication to complete full course and do not skip doses Advise patient to monitor for and report signs and symptoms of gout, hepatic impairment and drug induced reactions

SIGLATON Classification: Vitamins/ Minerals Indication: Prevention and treatment of vitamin-mineral deficiencies Dosage: 1 tsp Nursing Consideration:  Maybe taken with or without food
