January 23, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONTREAL - NDP leadership candidate Brian Topp further solidified his base of support in Montreal by picking up the endorsement of prominent activist and candidate Jeff Itcush. Itcush, who began the campaign supporting Tom Mulcair, has been a leading member of the NDP in Montreal for nearly two decades and brings a wealth of experience to Topp¶s strong team of grassroots organizers in the province. ³Thomas Mulcair¶s sterling efforts and dedication re-engaged me as a New Democrat. But Brian opened the page to the next chapter. Here is someone who can be Prime Minister. He has the wit, policy depth and persona to lead a country.´ Said Itcush. Itcush has worked closely with Mr. Mulcair since he joined the NDP in 2007. ³Jeff is a man of deep principle and integrity, who has worked tirelessly to build the NDP and advance the cause of social democracy in Quebec for decades,´ said Topp. ³I am deeply honoured to have his support over this last phase of the campaign´ ³I¶m a bit of a hard-sell on some issues,´ continued Itcush, the NDP candidate for Mount Royal in 2011. ³Brian had the guts to not just tell me what I wanted to hear. He told me the truth with well-developed logic and respect for someone who he believed might see things differently. On a personal level, this ultimately jelled my support for his campaign.´ ³Brian has that combination of policy vision, senior public service experience and common touch that really appeals to me. In one candidate, I see someone who has well-developed positions and the ability to relate to people in their living rooms.´ Itcush explained. Itcush also highlighted Brian¶s experience in Saskatchewan and his deep roots in Quebec as important factors in his endorsement. ³I¶ve seen more than one leadership team in action over the past months. The enthusiasm at Topp campaign headquarters has a pull on you´ -- 30 -For more information or interviews: Ethan Cox: 514-662-0070 or Jim Rutkowski: 250-812-1741
