9 SECTION 1. Chapter 481X, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is

amended by adding a new part to be appropriately designated and to read as follows: “PI~RT §481X—

INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS As used in this part:

Definitions.

“Internet service provider” means a company that provides access to the Internet. “Internet protocol address” means is a numerical label assigned to each device participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication and provides host or network interface identification and location addressing.

Any internet service provider that provides internet

service to a consumer in the State shall retain consumer records for no less than two years. The required data for the consumer

SECTION 2.

amended by designating sections 4BlX—l to 4SlX—12 as part I, entitled “General Provisions”. SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
