Types of
Hazard/Exposure

Acute Hazards/Symptoms

Prevention

First Aid/Fire

Fire

Flammable. Emits toxic fumes under
fire conditions. Vapor may travel
considerable distance to source of
ignition and flashback. Container may
explode under fire conditions.

Avoid heat, sparks,
flames.

Dry chemical, foam, or
carbon dioxide.

Inhalation

Toxic. Corrosive. Lachrymator. Toxic
by inhalation. Inhalation may result in
spasm, inflammation, and edema of the
larynx and bronchi, chemical
pneumonitis and pulmonary edema.

Ventilation, local
exhaust.

Remove to fresh air. If
breathing is difficult, give
oxygen.

Skin

Harmful if in contact with skin.
Causes burns.

Protective gloves and
clothing.

Immediately flush skin
with soap and copious
amounts of water for at
least 15 minutes. Remove
contaminated clothing.

Eyes

Harmful to the eyes.

Safety goggles.

Immediately flush eyes
with copious amounts of
water lifting upper and
lower lids often. Seek
medical advice.

Ingestion

Toxic if swallowed. Exposure to and/or
consumption of alcohol may increase
toxic effects. Exposure can cause,
burning sensation, wheezing,
laryngitis, shortness of breath,
headache, coughing, nausea, and
vomiting.

Do not eat or drink in
the laboratory.

If swallowed wash out
mouth with water. Call a
physician.

Carcinogenicity

Not a known carcinogen. Mutagenicity

Not a known mutagen.

For more detailed information consult the Material Safety Data Sheet for this compound.
